Principal Consultant (Peatland Restoration) – Renewables – United Kingdom
Eden Scott are pleased to be supporting their Consultancy client with the appointment of a Principal Consultant to join their esteemed Environmental and Consents team. This represents an excellent opportunity to join a leading international consultancy and work primarily on Peatland restoration projects.
The role can be based from either Stirling, Glasgow, Horsley, Inverness or Dalry.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
• To be a technical lead for peatland assessments and peatland restoration projects providing advice on onshore renewable/restoration projects;
• To ensure the successful co-ordination, delivery and quality assurance of the hydrology team inputs (soils, peat, hydrogeology and hydrology) to EIAR renewables projects;
• To ensure the successful co-ordination, delivery and quality assurance of EIAR supporting documents, including but not limited to management plans;
• Assist in mentoring and development of the staff, as part of growing and developing the team; and
• Play an active role in business development.
General Responsibilities
• Take responsibility for the on-time, on-quality and on-budget delivery of projects assigned to you and staff under your supervision;
• Manage internal and external resource available to achieve this;
• Ensure financial reporting is undertaken as detailed in any relevant contract (usually monthly);
• Ensure that projects are scheduled and prioritised;
• Ensure that tasks are assigned to relevant personnel;
• Write and review technical reports and other project deliverables in accordance with our clients standards and technical governance expectations in line with client needs;
• Carry out necessary QA checks on written material produced by you and your project team (to include third party contractors);
• Liaise with senior members of the team to ensure adequate support is delivered for pieces of work requiring assistance across the sub-team and wider department, and for final approval in the QA process;
• Utilise Project tools (within IFS) to ensure project deliverability to required timescales; and
• Advise clients on the most appropriate route, and the required work involved, for them to meet their objectives.
Managing and Mentoring Staff
• Line management of staff and/or leadership of a significant team/discipline;
• Take a proactive mid level leadership role within the department;
• Ensure the team is appropriately utilised where relevant;
• Ensure appropriate resourcing is in place and staff are not over/under committed;
• Provide assistance to directors for general management of wider sub-team; and
• Mentoring and succession planning implementation.
Technical Expertise
• Be a technical lead in both peat assessment and peat restoration;
• Ensure up to date peat management practice is being adhered to;
• Be a technical lead in peat related projects;
• Input to EIAR chapters, including peat, soils, geology, hydrogeology and hydrology;
• Input to developing supporting management plans; and
• Ensure management of technical deliverables and the hydrology team.
Business Development
• Support with business development in preparing and reviewing proposals;
• Input to and support tender submissions;
• Aid in the identification of potential future work streams;
• Raise our clients profile via presentation/publication/attendance at target events; and
• Build a network of client and industry relationships to anticipate their needs.
Training
• Keep up to date with knowledge of relevant legislation;
• Maintain knowledge of best practices within planning/development/environmental consultancy;
• Maintain knowledge of the renewable energy industry;
• Identify and attend conferences/training courses when required;
• Undertake continued professional development (CPD) and work towards obtaining chartership in relevant field of study;
• Support team members in developing competencies and training needs; and
• Enforce and maintain Health and Safety regulations within the C&E department and ensure that best practice is being adhered to.
