We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Bid Manager at Leonardo, the 'Home of British Helicopters', a global leader in aerospace innovation.
You will play a pivotal role in driving the success of our UK bids and proposals, managing the UK bid team comprising Bid Managers and Bid Officers.
The role involves delivering large, complex opportunities, working closely with the Head of Bids and Proposals to implement lessons learned through continuous improvement activities.
This position is classified as level 8 on our Salary & Career Progression Framework (S&CPF).
The role is hybrid, requiring 3-4 days per week on-site in Yeovil, Somerset.
Key Responsibilities as the Senior Bid Manager:
1. Develop, mentor, and lead the UK Bids and Proposals team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
2. Assess workload demands proactively, prioritize tasks, and allocate resources effectively.
3. Formulate winning bid strategies in collaboration with the Sales team, aligning with organizational objectives.
4. Manage the end-to-end bid preparation process, from customer requirement receipt to contract award.
5. Monitor and manage bid budgets and expenditures related to UK bids and proposals.
6. Coordinate written and cost inputs from multiple workstreams and external partners.
7. Ensure timely delivery of requirements in accordance with customer deadlines.
8. Lead or support contract negotiations to achieve sales targets aligned with business objectives.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Degree-level qualification or equivalent, with demonstrated bid management knowledge (e.g., Shipley process, Miller-Heiman or similar).
2. Proven track record of winning business through competitive processes, with strong commercial, project, and risk management skills.
3. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, capable of leading, collaborating, and tactfully challenging within cross-functional teams.
4. Ability to assess complex requirements and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
5. Strong interpersonal skills to develop close relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including senior management and government/military customers.
6. Planning and organizing skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Project.
7. High attention to detail, both written and numerical, to deliver accurate, high-quality bids and proposals.
8. Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously.
9. Willingness to travel domestically and potentially abroad on short notice.
Preferred Experience:
1. Experience managing bids with inputs and stakeholders from multicultural environments.
2. Experience in the defence aerospace industry.
