Base Location: Flexible | We will, however, need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSE offices in Scotland – Inverness, Aberdeen, Glasgow or Perth.
Salary: £55,200 to £70,000 + car/ cash allowance + annual bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing

The role
As part of SSEN Transmission Pathway to 2030 programme of works and beyond, we are looking for a Senior Civil Project Engineer to provide specialist engineering support on high profile and technically complex projects and who can bring big ideas, new skills and innovative thinking to help us grow our teams to successfully deliver a network for Net Zero.
You will
- Review and support a variety of civil design proposals and scopes through the development and execution phases of HVDC projects, including site selection, building/structural designs, ground investigation specification, foundation and earthworks designs, public road upgrade and landscaping for proposed assets.
- Understand and manage key engineering interfaces between civil engineering aspects of a HVDC project and other engineering disciples (HVDC Plant/Building Services/Underground Cable) and management of engineering and interface risks.
- Coordinate and manage civil engineering activities across a HVDC project, including design reviews, management of design change, deviations, TQs and RFIs and site supervision.
- Drive decision making and support other projects through peer review of key issues.
- Promote best practice within the HVDC Civil team and support and direct junior Civil Engineers within their HVDC project team and the wider HVDC team, using your technical expertise in collaboration and in conjunction with the other senior/principal Civil Engineers throughout Transmission.
You have
- Demonstrable experience managing the design development for Transmission projects, preferably HVDC, or complex multi-disciplinary engineering projects and be comfortable to technically assess issues and/or problems and critically assess a range of technical solutions.
- An excellent technical understanding of relevant legislation and technical standards and the implications of these on design development and the Transmission network for both Assets and Projects, including CDM.
- Effective communication skills are essential, and you should be able to communicate complex technical issues clearly and concisely to facilitate decision making by senior management.
- The ability to work effectively with key stakeholders at all levels both internally and externally with an appetite for building strong, lasting relationships.
- A degree qualification in Civil Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline and ideally be a Chartered Engineer in a relevant institution or working towards chartered status.
