Cogent have an exciting opportunity for a Business Development Specialist to work as part of a team to generate interest in Cogent’s Commercial courses and consultancy portfolio, leading to customer meetings, sales and bookings.
This area of Cogent delivers industry led safety and compliance short courses and consultancy to Employers who operate high hazard / regulated sites. We provide best in class commercial short courses and consultancy support that address safety culture and behaviour in high hazard sites to ensure they are safe and meet regulatory requirements.
Providing first class quality customer interactions to help to achieve sales in line with company targets, you will work as part of a team to contact customers following marketing campaigns; website enquiries; incoming calls; and course expiry dates, as well as work with existing customers to support their skills needs through meaningful conversations about skills and other Cogent products that would support the customer.
Remuneration Package
* Salary between £27,000- £30,000 per annum dependent on experience

Key Accountabilities
1. To work as part of a team to ensure that Business unit sales targets are met, customer relationships are maintained and that excellent customer service is achieved
2. To use the Company CRM, lists of current customers and enquiries from the website to contact customers following marketing campaigns, events and inbound enquiries to gain interest in bookings/sales for Courses and consultancy
3. To achieve KPI’s relating to number of customer management activities and conversion rates in order to create the volume of activity to achieve the targeted sales
4. To work with the Course Booking Manager to understand the course and consultancy offer content and usp’s and how courses are to be delivered, targeted and populated
5. To create strong employer relationships leading to continued sales and provide feedback on employer requirements
6. Utilise social media in line with company policy to engage employers and generate sales
7. Work within the operations sales team to help to understand the customers, including:
1. Company research and profiling
2. E mail campaigns follow up
3. Mail shot follow up
4. Follow up calls after webinars
8. Maintenance of the customer contact and relationship management systems, ensuring accuracy at all times
9. Participate in role play days and objection handling days, contributing to the creation of key selling strategies for each courses
10. Attendance at exhibitions, conferences, trade shows manning Academy/Cogent stand when necessary
11. Support other members of the operations team
12. Support the production of regular sales reports
13. Assist in general administration duties when required in order to meet KPI’s and targets.
Key Performance Indicators
1. All KPI’s are successfully met
2. Targets relating to conversions of enquiries are met.
Knowledge Skills and Qualifications
1. Experience in working in a business development/ sales team/sales environment
2. A self-starter with good organisational skills, and the ability to engage with people of all levels
3. Previous experience of achieving KPI’s and targets in a business development environment
4. A creative approach to customer engagement, with innovative approaches to maximising potential sales
5. A strong communicator with the ability to negotiate and motivate, resulting in positive results
6. Demonstrated ability of using CRMs’ and other office products an advantage
7. Strong interpersonal skills – an effective ambassador
8. Ability to prioritise tasks and work under pressure
9. Willing to travel to external sites and attend events out of hours (usually only 3 or 4 times a year)
10. Understanding of the Science and technology/ COMAH sector and its skills issues an advantage
