Applications are invited for a Field Technician -Seed & Data Processing Specialist to join the Field Experimentation Team at the John Innes Centre based in Norwich, UK.
About the Field Experimentation Team
The Field Experimentation Team deliver world leading field trials in a range of crops to researchers at the John Innes Centre. The post holder will assist JIC scientists in delivering crop genetics research through growing experiments in a commercial farm environment. They will work in a team of five based in JIC’s state of the art field facility near the village of Bawburgh, Norfolk and surrounded by the JIC owned Church Farm (110 Ha). Fieldwork is also carried out at Morley Farms.
The role
The post holder will assist the Field Experimentation Team in delivering crop genetics research data to JIC scientists and external customers through growing experiments in a commercial farm environment.
Candidates should have previous experience in agriculture or horticulture, good computer literacy and communication skills, along with the ability to work flexibly with regard to working hours and weather conditions. A willingness to operate an array of equipment from drones, sprayers, tractors and combines to spades and scissors is essential.
The ideal candidate
Candidates should possess 5 GCSEs A*-C (or equivalent) and have enthusiasm for working with plants. You will have good working knowledge of plant husbandry and sound understanding of key Health & Safety principles. Previous experience of working in an agricultural or horticulture environment is essential and prior experience of field experimentation or trials would be advantageous.
