Children's Speech & Language Therapy Assistant - Band 4 - Buy-in/Traded Service
We are seeking an experienced Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to work in a supportive team of Speech and Language Therapists and Speech and Language Therapy Assistants.
Due to an ever-increasing demand for our buy-in services, Bromley Healthcare's Children's SLT Service is continuing to expand our fantastic and supportive team.
We can offer:
1. The opportunity to work alongside experienced speech and language therapists, delivering intervention to children and young people who have speech, language and communication needs (SLCN)
2. Internal training on a variety of clinical areas (e.g. Autism Spectrum Conditions, Developmental Language Disorder, Speech Disorders, Stammering)
3. Whole-team CPD meetings and small clinical supervision groups
4. Access to clinical specialists for specialist opinions and support
5. Admin support from our Care Co-Ordination Centre

Main duties of the job
There is a consistently high demand for our buy-in service, both from mainstream schools and within additionally resourced provisions and special schools.
Day-to-day, this role will involve screening children's communication skills and running small group and 1:1 intervention sessions to a mixed paediatric caseload with SLCN in mainstream schools as requested by the schools. This will be under the support and guidance of experienced speech and language therapists, with some joint working involved.

Qualifications
1. Educated to A Level Standard / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
2. GCSE English grade A-C or equivalent level of literacy and spoken English
3. GCSE A - C Maths or equivalent
4. Training related to children's paediatric conditions
5. Basic Life support
6. Manual handling training course
Experience
1. Experience of working with children with speech, language and communication needs
2. Experience of working with Speech and Language Therapists
3. Experience of working with pre school children
4. Experience of working in a team environment.
5. Past experience of working in the health care environment.
6. Experience working within a pre school and school environment
Specific Skills
1. Good observational skills for assessment and treatment.
2. To have a good standard of written and oral communication skills.
3. Able to prepare accurate written information and correspondence
4. To be able to motivate and communicate with children who may have difficulties with understanding.
5. Able to demonstrate patient and appropriate interaction with children who may be upset, angry or finding the assessment challenging.
6. To have good communication and organisational skills.
7. Able to travel around the community to attend home and school visits.
8. Skills in planning and engaging children in group activities
9. MAKATON trained
Information Technology
1. To have good skills with use of camera/video equipment.
2. Good IT skills to input medical records, data on spreadsheets and to use online ordering systems
3. Word documents skills to produce therapy programmes for complex children
4. Experience of using EMIS
5. Experience of using databases and spreadsheets
