We have an exciting opportunity for a Critical Care Specialist Occupational Therapist post at Imperial College Healthcare Trust working within a well established ICU therapy team. We have busy and specialist critical care units on all of our three main sites, with this vacancy on the Hammersmith Hospital site which includes Cardiothoracics, UGI and HPB surgery, Cardiology, Renal & Haematology critical care patients.
We are looking for an experienced band 6 or current band 7 Occupational Therapist, with a keen interest in developing within this role. You will have a wide range of clinical experience in a variety of clinical areas alongside excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills and a passion for delivering excellent patient centred care. You will have the opportunity to develop your specialist skills.
The post holder will be responsible for the further development of Occupational Therapy in critical care, including the training of team members and wider MDT. As the lead therapist you will be responsible for the assessment and patient centred rehabilitation of the patients within the critical care unit and the step down wards. The role requires someone with the drive to improve, have excellent communication and team working skills.
We offer a comprehensive in-service training and induction programme, internal and external courses are supported, and opportunities for postgraduate study exist.
Main duties of the job
* The post holder will be part of an integrated therapy service, meeting the needs of a multi-cultural and diverse population. As a senior member of a committed team they will be responsible for providing an advanced standard of Occupational therapy to patients within critical care caseload at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
* The post will manage a complex caseload within the critical care units and surgical wards, using advanced clinical reasoning to assess and create tailored intervention and rehabilitation plans.
* The post holder will manage a caseload of patients with intensive care acquired weakness and those with general rehabilitation and discharge planning needs within critical care and stepdown wards.
* The post holder will work closely with physiotherapists and will provide leadership for junior occupational therapists and therapy assistants as well as support service development and quality improvement projects. Together with other senior staff the post holder will act as a resource of advice to the rest of the occupational therapy service and wider multi-disciplinary teams.
