Sussex Partnerships have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist with an interest in medical education.
The post of Director of Medical Education is a well-established role within SPFT, providing senior medical leadership to medical education.
Main duties of the job
The Director of Medical Education (DME) provides leadership, strategic direction, and vision for the assurance, management, and delivery of postgraduate and undergraduate medical education in Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
They are responsible for the quality of the learning environment provided by the Trust for medical learners defined within their role.
The DME works with the Chief Medical Officer, Medical Director for Workforce, executive lead for education, and the Director of HR to develop effective medical workforce plans and ensure the smooth running of the education centres in the Trust.
Job responsibilities
The post holder will:
* Communicate effectively about matters relating to all aspects of medical education with board members, directors, senior managers, and clinical leaders across the Trust and the broader healthcare community.
* Innovate and deliver a Trust framework and strategy for postgraduate and undergraduate education consistent with the Trust's plans.
* Deliver strong and effective governance of medical education.
* Develop and maintain excellent external working relationships with key stakeholders, including Health Education England, the GMC, Royal Colleges and Faculties, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), and universities such as Brighton and Sussex Medical School.
* Use innovative approaches to continually improve the medical education offered to all learners.
* Oversee the running of the Sussex and Coombe Valley medical education centres alongside the medical education manager.
Person Specification
Essential and desirable
* Appointment as a consultant/SAS/GP (min. 5PA clinical contract).
* Recognised as a GMC Trainer.
* Breadth of experience in medical education, e.g., training and supervision of doctors, students, and other professionals.
* Minimum of 3 years as a Clinical or Educational Supervisor.
* Evidence of supporting trainees with significant needs.
* Postgraduate qualification in medical education, leadership, or management.
* Minimum of 2 years' experience in a senior education role, e.g., locality or specialty tutor, clinical tutor, Training Programme Director, departmental educational lead.
* Experience in leadership or management within a formal role or as part of a team in related activity.
* Leading diverse teams and taking responsibility for delivering results.
* Evidence of experience at a strategic level of national and/or international education organisations.

£105,504 to £139,882 a year pro rata plus responsibility allowance £20,000.
