We currently have vacancies in the Pre-Operative Assessment Department, as detailed below:
* 37.5 hours, 8-6pm x 4 days per week at Kidderminster Treatment Centre
* 30 hours, 8-4pm x 4 days per week at the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch
Countywide working may also be required to cover leave.
We offer a range of clinics providing opportunities to learn and diversify your weekly work. We are committed to flexibility and can accommodate shift patterns as above, Monday - Friday.
Main duties of the job
Our pre-op assessments are conducted via an online system called Synopsis. The service provides assessments for various surgical procedures across the county; therefore, you will be mentored and supported to learn the role. Experience in pre-operative assessment is preferred, but a solid knowledge of medicine and surgery will also be considered. This is an exciting time to join our service, with many national changes underway and services being reconfigured to meet the healthcare needs of our communities. The service offers different clinics to maximize learning and skill development, including triage, venipuncture, and ECG interpretation. You will work closely with the Nursing and Anaesthetic teams and be supported to achieve your pre-operative competencies.

Job responsibilities
Job Summary
Using your clinical experience and skills, you will work with your team as a named nurse to maintain accountability for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care programs within a team nursing framework.
Acting with compassion, you will prioritize patient-centered care.
You will communicate effectively with patients and their carers, providing education as needed.
You will liaise with the Multi-Disciplinary Team to ensure high-quality patient care.
You will maintain and develop your clinical competence and professional awareness.
You will supervise, support, and educate unqualified staff and students.
You will embrace new ways of working and advocate for patients, including speaking up when concerns arise.
You will rotate through countywide Pre-op Assessment clinics, including KTC, WRH, and the Alex.
Role Details
You will ensure accurate pre-operative patient information and documentation via Synopsis, conducting holistic assessments and making appropriate referrals promptly.
You will communicate effectively with patients, carers, and the MDT.
You will safeguard vulnerable adults and educate patients on health promotion and lifestyle changes.
You will ensure follow-up and discharge preparations are completed before admission and liaise with surgical teams regarding cancellations.
You will maintain and develop your knowledge and skills, contributing to research and standards of care, and participate in handling complaints and preceptorship programs.
You will assist in staff training and development, including completing assessors' training.
You will be mindful of budgeting and resource use, and, with support, undertake clinical or shift management in your development pathway.
You will help assess staffing needs, ensuring safe practice and effective communication within your team.

Qualifications
* Registered Nurse on part 1 of the NMC register

* Willingness to undertake countywide work
* Proven experience in Pre-Operative Assessment or transferable skills
