DUTIES:
Reporting to the Deputy City Planner – Growth, this position will be responsible for:
1. Reviewing and recommending terms and conditions of landscaping and urban design requirements for development applications (i.e. site plan control, committee of adjustment, rezoning applications, subdivisions, etc.).
2. Conducting site inspections to determine conformity with landscaping, lighting, and urban design requirements established through the approval process and legal agreements.
3. Attending the Committee of Adjustment, Development Heritage and Standing Committee, and Council, as required.
4. Assisting and developing documents, guidelines, and standards for developments.
5. Preparing and implementing landscaping and streetscaping guidelines, policies, and procedures.
6. Assisting in the preparation of landscape/streetscape/urban design concepts for municipal capital projects and for illustrative purposes in the review of development applications.
7. Providing expert evidence before the Ontario Land Tribunal and other tribunals.
8. Performing Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program.
9. Performing other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have:
1. A University degree in Landscape Architecture, or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency.
2. A minimum of four (4) years of progressive, responsible experience in site planning, site design, site development, landscape design, park development, or related experience.
3. Membership with the Ontario Association Landscape Architects (OALA), or Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA), or the ability to attain full membership within two (2) years of accepting the position.
4. The ability to travel to offsite locations in a timely and expedient manner as required.
5. If method of travel is by vehicle, a current valid and lawful Driver's Licence is required in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act, and must provide a driver’s abstract as a condition of employment.
6. Proven ability to work in a team environment.
7. The ability to solve problems and meet deadlines under pressure.
8. Excellent communications, presentation, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
9. Proficiency in Windows based software including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
10. Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, its regulations, and knowledge of the hazards associated with the work.
11. Completion of urban design courses/projects will be considered an asset.
12. Knowledge of the development review process would be considered an asset.
