Main duties of the job
The role will report to the BI Business Partner for Surgery and will provide advanced analytics, including data science, modelling, and applied statistics. A key aspect of this role will be working on high-profile and ground-breaking projects with key Trust stakeholders, to ensure top quality analytics are produced in liaison with partners.
Candidates will need significant experience of working in a BI function in a complex and changing organisation. They will require excellent interpersonal and communication skills to enable the developments within the team to be fully realised ensuring staff have the necessary support and drive to maximise results. They will also need to be able to work collaboratively and innovatively, coming up with unique solutions to complex problems.

The Advanced Information Analyst will provide advanced analytical support to the Trust and its Divisions and Service Lines. The post holder reports to the BI Business Partner for Surgery. The post holder provides accurate, clear and concise intelligence to support the Trust and its Divisions. The post holder will use advanced analytical techniques, including data science, modelling, applied statistics, and forecasting, to fully harness the power of the Trust's extensive data collection to provide new and insightful findings to support the running of Trust operations. The post holder will be at the forefront of any new analytical techniques available, and will have scope to inform the direction of analytical travel for the BI Team. The post holder will represent the BI Team at meetings with senior Clinical, Operational, and Executive staff within this organisation and with partner organisations.

* Graduate education or equivalent experience
* Further educational achievement in an information related field, acquired either by in-depth experience or postgraduate study to Masters level

* Strong data science experience in an appropriate language such as R or Python
* A commitment to continuing professional and personal development
* Extensive experience of working in information analysis or equivalent NHS experience
* Expert level of skill in information analysis and synthesis, including the ability to receive highly complex and sensitive information and synthesise new knowledge from the findings
* The ability to prepare and present verbal and high-quality written reports to key stakeholders and to recommend actions arising from Information analysis
* The ability to explain complex data and information issues to non-information staff
* High level of negotiation and influencing skills
* Expert technical knowledge of information systems including in depth knowledge of NHS data definitions, clinical terminology and coding systems. This includes a thorough understanding of current issues facing the NHS and the role of information in this context.
* Expert skills in complex data extraction from information databases including the use of Structured Query Language (SQL) and manipulation of this data in spreadsheets and PC applications such as Excel, using skills at an advanced level of expertise
* Strong awareness of demographics, Health Inequalities, and the Population Health agenda
* Knowledge of statistical techniques and applied data science, including data modelling and hypothesis testing
* A passion for health analytics, and an understanding of the difference a strong BI function can make to an acute hospital trust and the patients within it
* Experience of training and mentoring staff on analytical methodologies and techniques, both technical skills and softer skills
* Ability to work under pressure, dealing with changing and frequently competing priorities to tight deadlines
