Principal Software Engineer - Release & Support
Job Overview: As an experienced release manager, you will lead a small team to integrate, release and support a software stack (firmware, Linux, device drivers and applications) for a new range of Arm hardware devices aimed at AI use cases. You will set the strategy for the team, liaise with other software component teams, and plan and deliver a well-managed and high-quality software release. After release, you will also provide engineering-level customer support and plan and deliver maintenance for the lifetime of the product. You will also be the line manager for the team, handling the full range of activities such as hiring, development and performance evaluations. This team is part of the wider software group in Arm. Our mission is to ensure successful deployment of the Arm architecture into key software ecosystems. This role is based in our Cambridge office.
Responsibilities:
1. Leading a high-performing team of up to 7 engineers
2. Defining branching and release strategies, including for maintenance releases
3. Owning CI/CD, defect logging and tracking for releases
4. Leading the engineering response to customer support issues
Required Skills and Experience:
1. Knowledge on embedded Linux-based software stack
2. Expertise in automating software build, test and release workflows with previous experience on GitLab CI automation
3. Understanding source code management and defining branching strategies
4. Experience in managing and developing other engineers
5. Effective communicator and ability to collaborate well within and across teams
“Nice To Have” Skills and Experience:
1. Familiarity with containers (docker), source control (git), CI systems (GitLab) and Jira
2. Awareness of software supply chain compliance (software component analysis, open-source licenses, SBOMs)
3. Experience in responding to customer support issues
