Head of Acute Care Strategy (Deputy Director)

On 5 March 2024 the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Jeremy Hunt, announced funding for Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH) to develop its long-term plans for healthcare on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus (CBC). This is part of a wider investment in life sciences and economic growth in the Cambridge area and will enable CUH to develop plans to meet the health needs of the existing and planned new population, and to ensure the hospital can continue to play its full part in the success of the CBC.
Currently CUH, with partners and supported by external consultants, is developing a vision for the future of acute healthcare services on the CBC and in surrounding communities, together with an implementation plan which will start from March 2025. To support further development of this clinical strategy and the underpinning new models of care, in parallel with implementation of early quick wins, we are creating a small and dynamic project team which includes clinical and non-clinical roles.
Main duties of the job
The Head of Acute Care Strategy has a crucial leadership role within the project, developing and delivering a successful programme of work in strategic focus areas in order to support delivery of the Acute Care Strategy. In particular, the post holder will undertake the following:
* Working with the senior leadership to lead and support the Acute Care Strategy development programme.
* Support the management of the production of submissions and business cases to Government, together with other key stakeholders, providing expert professional knowledge to support their development and progress through Government approvals processes.
* Actively maintain a detailed overview of the Acute Care Strategy project, coordinate the workstreams, manage interdependencies and ensure realisation of projected benefits.
* Reporting of progress to the Acute Care Strategy Project Director (currently CUH Director of Major Projects) and project leadership groups as required.
The position requires a highly motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills to manage and develop a diverse set of relationships with senior personnel from Government, the NHS, University, charity and commercial partners. An expert facilitator, the post holder will play a key role in identifying risks and issues and operate as a skilled negotiator and 'unblocker' to drive progress towards delivery. They will be responsive to the changing needs of the health and care system and the University.

Qualifications
* Educated to Masters level or demonstrable equivalent level of knowledge.
* Evidence of Project Management training.
* Evidence of continuous professional development.
* Postgraduate research qualification, e.g. PhD, or clinical qualification.
Knowledge
* Extensive knowledge of how to manage large scale complex programmes and projects at a senior management level using recognised methodology (e.g. Prince 2) and tracking and monitoring their implementation.
* Knowledge of how to identify and manage risks, issues and dependencies.
* Extensive knowledge of change management with proven negotiating and influencing knowledge both internally and externally and at all levels.
* Knowledge of Government business cases processes.

Experience
* Demonstrable experience of working at management level within the NHS, a large research organisation, University or industry.
