A World-Class technology company founded in Edinburgh is looking for an experienced Principal Software Engineer, ideally with a good background in Java and AWS, to lead several of their core squads. They’ve been operating very successfully for well over ten years and are recognized as the market leaders within their field. They’re currently going through a period of growth as they’re scaling up several of their products and squads, so it’s a really exciting time to join.
Within this role, you’ll be looking after a few Agile squads (roughly 35 Engineers), each of which is currently managing business-critical products. This is definitely regarded as a ‘hands-on’ role, and you’ll be expected to get regularly involved in coding – predominantly in the backend with Java. You’ll be seen as the subject matter expert within your squads.
You’ll also be involved in the project roadmap for all teams, working closely with the Lead Engineers, advising on the technical strategy, and helping them to implement this. Many squads are currently focusing on scaling their products to deal with the ever-increasing demand, so a good background in this area is essential.
In addition, the company places a strong emphasis on best practices, and you’ll be expected to champion this within your role to ensure all teams deliver software to the highest possible level.
You’ll ideally have good experience with the following:
1. Strong Programming skills; ideally with Java
2. Software Architecture
3. Cloud Services (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
4. Proven experience in a similar role
The following is highly desirable:
1. Apache Kafka
2. Front-end experience (ReactJS with TypeScript)
3. DevOps tooling (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform)

In return, they’re able to offer a salary from £90k to £115k (depending on ability and experience) and a strong benefits package to match, which includes bonuses and uncapped holidays.
