Salary: Up to £70,000 depending on experience

About the position of Specialist Mortgage Underwriter
Working for a specialist bank, we have a new vacancy for a Buy-To-Let Underwriter. The primary purpose of this role is underwriting mortgages across Buy-To-Lets, HMOs, Semi-Commercials and Short-Term Loans, operating within the boundaries set by lending policy and guidelines.
Responsibilities required for the role of Specialist Mortgage Underwriter
* Apply a pragmatic approach to underwriting mortgage applications within approved delegated authority mandates.
* Analyse key items such as credit reports, property portfolios, bank statements, financial accounts, and security valuations to make informed lending decisions.
* Maintain low levels of arrears and losses while balancing the flexibility needed to serve the specialist lending sector.
* Develop a rationale to lend when cases fall outside individual mandates, with the ability to discuss these with key stakeholders in group risk functions.
* Ensure appropriate customer due diligence and AML risk mitigation are conducted or requested before completing the underwriting process.
* Deliver a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in all data and documentation under your responsibility.
* Respond to internal and external inquiries by phone and email efficiently and in line with company standards.
* Build effective relationships with brokers, communicating decisions and requirements clearly.
* Manage a pipeline of cases up to formal offer, striving to meet company-defined service standards.
* Understand and apply company policies, procedures, and compliance guidelines, incorporating these principles into daily practices to protect against associated risks.
* Collaborate effectively with various divisional functions to support their operational duties.
Experience required for the role of Specialist Mortgage Underwriter
* Experienced underwriter in residential buy-to-let, commercial/semi-commercial, and short-term lending sectors.
