The Role – Job summary
Within this role as a Senior Computational Chemist (FTC), you will develop and apply computational models, simulations, and data analysis techniques to support our research scientists. This role is ideal for an individual with strong problem-solving skills and a passion for using computational methods to tackle scientific challenges.
You will work within our Computer-Aided Drug Design (CADD) team, where you will be actively involved in internal, and partnered drug discovery projects; applying state-of-the-art molecular modelling techniques to support multidisciplinary research activities.
Key responsibilities
1. Develop and implement computational models and simulations to help support our drug discovery projects
2. Analyse datasets using statistical and machine-learning techniques
3. Collaborate with experimental scientists to validate models and integrate computational insights into practical applications
4. Optimise algorithms and workflows for efficiency and scalability
5. Write and maintain clear, well-documented code and technical reports
6. Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in computational science and apply innovative methods where appropriate
7. Present findings to internal teams and external collaborators
Knowledge & Experience
1. A solid understanding of the structural and physicochemical determinants of molecular recognition
2. Experience working with experimental biomolecular docking, pharmacophore modelling, conformational analysis, quantum chemistry, homology modelling, molecular dynamics
3. Strong background in computational modelling, numerical methods, or scientific computing
4. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, MATLAB, or C++
5. Experience with data analysis, visualisation, and statistical techniques
6. Ability to translate complex scientific problems into computational solutions
7. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
8. Familiarity with the Maestro and Schrodinger Suite components
9. Knowledge of high-performance computing (HPC) and cloud computing environments
10. Experience in machine learning and AI applications in scientific research
11. Familiarity with software development best practices, including version control and unit testing
12. An understanding of computational efficiency and parallel computing techniques

2. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
3. Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex computational concepts to non-specialists
4. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
5. A proactive and innovative approach to scientific research and development
Education & Qualifications
1. PhD in Computational Chemistry or a related discipline
2. Two or more years’ experience working in a professional drug discovery setting
