Job Overview
Fixed Term Consultant Cardiac Surgeon - asap for 6 months.
We are looking to appoint an individual who is an outstanding clinician and surgeon. The role is that of a Cardiac Surgeon dealing with all aspects of Adult Cardiac Surgery (with the exception of transplantation and GUCH surgery). We specialise in a wide variety of conditions and pathology and perform a broad range of surgical procedures including minimal access cardiac surgery. We are not looking for a surgeon with a particular sub-interest but expertise in specific areas will be taken into consideration during the appointment process.
Main Duties of the Job
The clinical duties of the post include the following:
* Theatre work (operating 2 lists per week on average)
* Ward rounds
* CICU rounds
* Patient care and administration
* Teaching and education
* On-call commitment (non-resident): currently 1 in 5
To provide a clinical Cardiac Surgical service for patients at the University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. As a tertiary service, with referrals coming from District General Hospitals in Sussex and South East England, the delivery of outreach services such as clinics or MDT meetings will be required.
The clinical service consists of all aspects of elective and emergency adult cardiac surgery with the exception of transplantation and congenital (GUCH) surgery.
To participate in clinical and other service activities with the objective of ensuring a high standard of patient care.
To take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training, audit and research.
To contribute to the management of the clinical service and service development.
On Call Commitment: 1 in 5 with prospective cover, Category A. 5% supplement applies.

* Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
