JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: School Nurse
REPORTS TO: The Principal / Head of Pastoral Care
JOB PURPOSE
To provide a professional nursing, confidential pupil care, health and hygiene service at school.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Pupils Care
1. Care for all sick pupils and make arrangements for supervised and secure transport for sick/injured pupils to be taken home or to hospital as required.
2. Administer first aid and diagnose ailments/injuries which required medical attention.
3. Organise and assist during all educational/medical welfare service visits.
4. Assist the designated teacher in the delivery of social education/sex education programme as required.
5. Provide consultation to individuals or groups on health related issues as required.
6. Communicate with appropriate personnel regarding welfare of pupils.
7. Regularly inspect the cloakroom/toilet areas for standards of hygiene.
8. Advise Principal on occupational health issues and risk assessment after accidents.
9. Advise Principal on health and safety issues related to the post.
Administration
1. Operate manual and/or computerised information systems in relation to administrative tasks associated with the area of work.
2. Complete and submit all records/returns as required.
3. Maintain an inventory/records of resources.
4. Order/purchase, receive, check, store, securely and distribute resources.
5. Assist in school administration and photocopy as directed.
General
1. Assist in maintaining standards of good order and cleanliness in the medical room and throughout the school.
2. Implement all relevant school policies and procedures.
3. Participate in any relevant training as directed by the principal.
4. Such other duties as may be assigned within the level of the post.
This job description will be subject to review in light of changing circumstances and is not intended to be rigid and inflexible but should be regarded as providing guidelines within which the individual works. Other duties of a similar nature and appropriate to the grade may be assigned from time to time. In the event of an excessive number of applications, the Selection Panel also reserves the right to apply any desirable criteria as outlined in Section 3 at shortlisting, in which case these will be applied in the order listed. It is important therefore that you also clearly demonstrate on your application form how you meet any desirable criteria.
