Cognitive Behaviour Therapist and Supervisor - MHST
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Full time Band 7 practitioner (qualified in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Supervision) to join the CAMHS Mental Health Support Team in Bracknell.
The Mental Health Support Team (MHST) provides assessments and short-term, evidence-based therapeutic interventions to young people with mild to moderate mental health needs. Clinicians working for the Mental Health Support Team service will promote the emotional wellbeing and mental health of young people in educational settings in Schools. They will offer advice, information and support to young people and families, and consultation and training to professionals, as appropriate. You may provide outreach support to promote engagement, where needed. You will lead the Slough Mental Health Support Team (MHST) and work closely with your Getting Help Team (GHT) colleagues and the MHST/Getting Help Team Lead to provide mental health consultations and advice to partner agencies, including the Local Authority, Youth Offending Teams and CAMHS pathways.

This is an important post at the interface with education settings, partner agencies and specialist CAMHS. The Mental Health Support Team sits alongside the Getting Help Team. Operational management and clinical supervision will be provided within Berkshire Healthcare CAMHS.
Main duties of the job
1. Clinical assessments for young people up to the age of 18 years, presenting with mild to moderate mental health problems.
2. Evidence-based therapeutic interventions (individual, group, family, as appropriate).
3. To offer training, consultation and supervision to external agencies regarding the mental health presentation of children and young people who are accessing the MHST.
4. Within schools, actively promote the whole school-based approach to developing and maintaining emotional health and well-being.
5. Provide leadership to the MHST, and deputise leadership to the team as required.
6. Ensuring liaison and joint working between the Getting Help / MHST and the locality Early Help Hub and specialist CAMHS services.
7. Use of routine outcome measures to promote active participation from young people and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
8. Training to professionals.

Person Specification
Education/Qualifications/Training
* Postgraduate Diploma qualification in a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy (CBT) or equivalent (Doctoral) level training and relevant UK Professional Registration (HCPC/BPS) or as a Systemic Family Psychotherapist (MA/MSc qualification with full registration as a Systemic Psychotherapist with UKCP) or appropriate qualification to be an existing CAMHS clinician at Band 7 for example, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Registered Nurse, CBT Therapist, Occupational Therapist or Social Worker.
* To have undertaken a qualification in one of the core mental health professions recognised by BABCP with associated professional registration including: Nursing qualification and registration as RMN or RNLD, Social Worker, Occupational Therapy.
* Other mental health professional training that has been accepted by HCPC, BPS or BABCP (please see BABCP for a list of core professions) or
* Evidence of having achieved and completed the Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes (KSA) portfolio route to BABCP Accreditation.
* Accreditation with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy (BABCP) or meets criteria for accreditation and working towards accreditation with BABCP.
Continuous Professional Development
* Commitment to ongoing professional development as recommended by the BABCP and staying up to date with advancements in CBT related therapies.
* Evidence of specific training, experience and/or interest and knowledge in psychological models and therapeutic approaches relevant to post e.g. service users with significant and severe mental health difficulties/ children and adolescents.
Previous Experience
* Experience in completing CBT assessments, formulations and interventions in a specialist healthcare or secondary care community mental health setting.
* Experience of providing, and adapting where necessary, CBT assessments, formulations and interventions with service users relevant to the service area.
* Experience of providing CBT (assessment, formulation, and treatment) with service users (and their carers/families) presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the range of settings, maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
* Experience of dealing with highly distressing or emotional circumstances, such as serious mental illness, child and sexual abuse, exploitation, and complex family dynamics.
* Experience of autonomously managing a caseload in a community mental health setting.
* Experience of working with complex situations concerning safeguarding and risk management.
* Experience of working effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and multi-agency environment.
* Experience of delivering group interventions.
* Experience of working with, and addressing issues of diversity, including experience of working with diversity, multiculturalism, and equality of access to service.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
* Demonstrable knowledge of CBT theory, principles, and techniques as well as evidence-based practice, relevant to the service area e.g. knowledge of complex presentations and serious mental illness for CBT posts in adult secondary care services and CAMHS; knowledge of time limited and accessible treatment for depression and anxiety presentations for CBT posts in CAMHS Getting help services.
* Ability to complete clear and detailed CBT assessments and collaboratively derived formulations of a service users' presentation using standardised measures and deliver a treatment plan, modifying the treatment plan as needed.
* Knowledge and understanding of service evaluation, audit and research and completing this in the NHS.
* Awareness of other therapeutic modalities and their integration with CBT for comprehensive treatment planning.
* Skills in delivering individual and group therapy sessions using CBT techniques to address diverse mental health needs.
* Ability to manage difficult situations with service users that have complex presentations and/or challenging behaviours and to manage a demanding and complex caseload.
* Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, technical and/or sensitive information to service users, their carers/families and other professional colleagues, both within and outside the NHS.
