The team The Employment team advise clients in industry on strategic global issues and help employers to resolve disputes with employees as well as general HR advice. They also have expertise in immigration and work with senior level individuals at the start or end of their employment relationship. The opportunity SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES To assist with a range of cases handled by the Group. The caseload is likely to include:- Drafting and revising employment contracts. Drafting and revising employment policies and handbooks Advising on a wide variety of employment issues including contract matters, unfair dismissal, redundancy and benefit packages. Drafting and advising on severance agreements. Advising on potential employment disputes on behalf of both employees and employers. Conducting contentious employment tribunal cases including preparation of papers, preparation for hearing and attendance at hearings. Advising on restrictive covenants. Advising on tax aspects of employment law. Advising on employee benefit packages. Advising on employment aspects of commercial transactions including TUPE, employee indemnities and warranties. Preparing due diligence reports on employment issues/aspects. Preparation of standard documents for department. Preparation of seminar and marketing materials. Keeping up to date with all the above aspects of employment law. MAIN DUTIES To carry out all client work allocated by the Head of Department or other Partner in accordance with the procedures and quality standards contained in the Firm’s Office Manual. To ensure that all client work is progressed expeditiously and that the client is kept regularly informed on progress and costs. To exercise at all times high standards of client care in a professional manner. To ensure the confidentiality and security of the Firm’s and client documentation and information. To achieve agreed levels of billing and time-recording. To comply with the Solicitors Accounts Rules and the Rules on the Professional Conduct of Solicitors. To maintain clear and precise communications, and good working relationships with other members of the Firm. To develop and ensure good working relationships with external institutions and organisations. To take responsibility for and attend to self-development. In conjunction with the Firm, to comply with the relevant training requirements of the Law Society and to assist with in-house training as may be required. In liaison with the Head of Department and other Partners, to be active in promoting the services of the Firm, its image and ethos including participating in tendering and other business development exercises.
