We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our Water Operations team at our Orpington WTW.
As the successful candidate, you will be working in a multi-discipline team and will be responsible for carrying out scheduled, unscheduled, and emergency maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimize plant breakdown.
This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to Thames Water by performing a range of assigned front-line activities including operation, testing, routine checks, maintenance, and problem-solving to ensure that services are delivered to time, cost, and quality standards. This will include planned and preventative maintenance of equipment to support the operation of the plant.
What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical & Electrical Technician:
* Investigate plant failures and carry out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and carrying out repairs during incidents.
* Provide technical advice, refer to up-to-date technical knowledge, and provide training or support for technical trainees if required.
* Work on equipment such as motors, gearboxes, screw/chain conveyors, centrifuges, various pumps, and associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSD, automatic valves, flow, level and pressure measurement, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives and controls, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.
* Complete statutory checks as required.
* Always work safely and comply with all Health and Safety guidance and procedures.
* Be prepared to be trained on the water treatment process.
What you should bring to the role:
* You should be a time-served apprentice or have significant experience in electrical systems working in a “true multi-skilled” capacity. Previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship is preferred.
* ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering with an upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ2/3 18th Edition.
* Ideally, you will have been upskilled with a mechanical qualification to allow inspecting, maintaining, fault diagnosing, testing, installing, modifying, or repairing mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently.
* Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are crucial.
* The work may require you to work in confined spaces with successful completion of the appropriate training.
* A valid driving licence is essential.
