The team expects to receive on average 10 new referrals a week and will see urgent cases by the next working day and routine cases within 15 working days. The consultant psychiatrist is expected to carry a compact caseload of the most complex and unstable cases but will also be available at short notice to provide consultation and advice to other team members. It must be stressed that the caseload contains far lower levels of morbidity and risk than an NHS general adult population and there is not a high emergency burden.
