Main duties of the job
They will provide and co-ordinate the highest standard of care for children and young people, be a key member of a multi-professional team, and it is therefore essential that they possess sound leadership and communication skills. They will be accountable for the day-to-day running of the paediatric ambulatory service, ensuring safe staffing levels and skill mix. Responsibilities include:
1. Ensuring standards are maintained and striving for excellence.
2. Being accountable for resources and the ward budget, ensuring to live within financial means.
3. Supporting all members of the team with ongoing learning, training, and development.
4. Acting as a role model to the team and the wider multi-disciplinary team.
5. Continuously improving services to meet the needs of children and young people and their families.

Job description
Job responsibilities
1. Manage people to ensure the effective operation of the team. Demonstrate leadership by example.
2. Demonstrate a positive attitude and high level of motivation by showing a strong commitment to the service.
3. Be accountable for paediatric ambulatory performance and achievement of all organisational targets and standards, working within the Trust's governance framework and current regulatory and policy requirements. Be aware of local and national guidance for maternity services.
4. With the Lead Nurse and Matron, ensure that the service is covered to meet demands with the appropriate skill mix. Manage any gaps in rosters and escalate any concerns to the Lead Nurse. Ensure that bank and agency usage is within budget controls.
5. Monitor and assess the performance of the team. Set criteria/competencies relevant to the area.
6. Provide effective communication to team members on changes in practice, policies, and guidelines.
7. Ensure that individual performance reviews and personal development plans are completed for each staff member and follow HR policies. Provide clear feedback to team members in a way that is conducive to maintaining and improving performance. Work closely with the Human Resources Department as appropriate.
8. Responsible for ensuring that any concerns highlighted in these performance reviews are fed back to the Lead Nurse for Paediatrics and Neonates and implement any actions required.
9. Responsible for ensuring the continuous development of Nurses, Nurse Associates, Play Leaders, and Care Assistants, working with the Practice Development team to ensure any developmental needs are supported.
10. Work with all staff to provide a culture that is developmental, flexible, and supportive.
