An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Safety Case Engineer to join Rolls-Royce Submarines in Thurso. As the Safety Case Engineer, you will work as part of a team of site safety case practitioners supporting safety case owners and assurance staff reporting to the Vulcan Chief Engineer.
Thurso is situated in the historical county of Caithness and is the northernmost town in the UK where we have successfully operated and managed the Vulcan Naval Reactor Test Establishment for the last 50 years on behalf of the Ministry of Defence. The site is currently delivering against significant programmes of work, which provides an excellent opportunity to develop and gain experience in the nuclear industry.

What you will be doing:
You will prepare and review safety cases forming an approved safe working envelope for the nuclear facilities and key site programmes.
1. Prepare and review changes to the site safety management arrangements, ensuring relevant safety case and regulatory compliance.
2. Ensure safety implications are fully considered and changes are appropriately detailed and approved through site due process.
3. Ensure outputs are optimised to comply with the As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) principle.
4. Provide practical and technical advice on the application, implementation, and limitations of applicable site safety management arrangements, facility and process safety cases taking account of enterprise and industry best practice.
5. Perform activities in accordance with site safety management arrangements.
Who we’re looking for:
1. Good understanding and demonstrable experience of safety case production, development, and review, including the use of hazard identification and assessment techniques.
2. Experience working in the nuclear industry or other well-regulated environments is essential.
3. Strong project management capabilities and the ability to work as part of an integrated project team to agreed programmes.
4. Degree qualified in an engineering or science-based subject or relevant industry experience.
5. Professional registration through a recognised institute is desirable.
To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines business, an individual has to hold a Security Check clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not currently have this in place.
