We are a small, friendly GP Surgery located within the village of Grimston, Norfolk.
We are looking for an additional Dispenser, preferably already qualified to join our enthusiastic and professional team.
The position is permanent and will cover hours between 8.30am- 5.30pm Wednesday and Friday.
Flexibility is essential to be able to provide additional cover for holidays and sickness.
The NVQ Level 2 as a dispenser or in Pharmacy Service is preferred but not essential as full training will be given.
Main duties of the job
Issue, prepare and dispense prescriptions.
Controlling dispensary stock so it is within reasonable levels, is accurately recorded in and out of the computer stock control system, rotated and stored correctly.
Undertake DRUMs as required.
Deal with queries relating to prescriptions as necessary in a calm and professional manner.
Liaise with the clinical team within the Practice daily and respond promptly to any queries which arise.
Our Dispensary is a very busy environment requiring you to work efficiently within a team.
To ensure the Dispensary is run in a cost-effective efficient manner, complying with the Dispensary's policies and Standard Operating Procedures, facilitating effective communication between patients and all members of the health care team.
About us
The Dispensary is located within the Surgery and provides acute and repeat medication to our 5300 patients.
The Clinical team comprises of 3 GP Partners, 1 GP, 1 Nurse Practitioner, 3 Practice Nurses and 2 HCAs. This means that the Dispensary is a busy environment with a constant through-flow of patients requiring medication and answers to their related enquiries.
The Surgery is currently open from Monday to Friday, we do not open on weekends.
Job responsibilities
To ensure the safe and accurate ordering, dispensing and checking of all medication, and that they are prepared and delivered promptly.
Dispense and check all prescriptions safely and accurately.
Communicate effectively with patients, visitors and the multidisciplinary team.
Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Establish and maintain accurate and tidy working practices.
Undertake agreed tasks and duties once competency achieved.
Follow and abide by all Practice protocols, policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at all times.
Answer the telephone promptly and courteously whilst maintaining patient confidentiality, liaising with patients, suppliers and external agencies.
Assist in the smooth running of the dispensary, keeping all workstations clean and tidy in line with IPC cleaning schedules.
Deal with prescriptions monies promptly and accurately.
Comply with Information Governance and computer usage policies and guidelines.
Use resources effectively, minimising waste.
Ensure all tasks, notifications and emails are actioned promptly and mandatory training is completed.
Carry out all dispensary related administrative tasks diligently and efficiently.
Complete additional allocated tasks following discussion and agreement with dispensary lead and management.
Order, manage and store stock, deal with deliveries of medication, appliances and dispensary supplies.
Uniform will be provided.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE Mathematics C or above
* GCSE English C or above
* NVQ2 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent)
Experience
* Previous Customer Service experience
* Ability to work as part of a small busy team
* Previous Pharmacy or Dispensary experience beneficial
Additional skills and background
* Friendly and outgoing, with a positive attitude
* Firm understanding of the need for strict confidentiality
* Flexibility, you may be required to cover holidays and sickness outside of your contracted hours
* Good IT skills - use of Microsoft products, email etc.
* Previous experience of working within Primary Care
* Previous experience with SystmOne would be beneficial but not essential
