Job description The overarching purpose of the Chief Environment and Safety Officer is to ensure the Head of Army Safety is supported in their delivery to meet objectives set by Defence. As well as this your main responsibilities will include: Provide expert Functional Safety advice across the Army Develop and maintain the overarching Army Safety and Environmental Management System (SEMS) including: Overseeing Army Command Standing Order Chapter 12 for all FP (SHEF) publications Specific responsibility for ACSO 1200 - The Armys SEMS policy Overseeing the 2nd Line of Defence Functional Safety Assurance in accordance with ACSO 9001 and sub-ACSO 9016 Communicating with the other Frontline Commands, enabling organisations, MOD agencies, Other Government Departments, external organisations, and statutory enforcement agencies. Someone who has demonstrable and relevant skills in safety management, strategic risk management, organisational learning, and who thrives in a diverse and fast-paced environment. They will need practical experience and knowledge within a Safety-critical role and keep pace with the Army as it delivers and continuously improves it safety programmes. They must have a coherent leadership style and will be expected to engage with and positively influence internal and external stakeholders from the most junior level to the highest ranks. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate their ability to deliver against tight deadlines, their excellent communication skills - both written and orally, and have a good understanding of organisational Safety Risk Management. They will need to deliver at pace against a backdrop of operational uncertainty and continuous organisational change.
