We are looking for a speech and language therapy (SLT) assistant to join our team who is capable of working independently with the support of the qualified therapists and the assistant team.
You will provide face-to-face intervention to clients with swallowing and communication difficulties in community settings, such as their own home and care homes. The team works with people with a variety of diagnoses. Some of your time will be spent working on the Mental Health inpatient wards at the Evington Centre.
This role will include working with patients/carers both 1:1, in communication therapy groups & supporting qualified Therapists. You will also provide support to the SLT therapists by preparing therapy resources, such as communication picture aids, & collating medical information. We will use a competency framework to structure your development.
We welcome applications from people looking for a band 3 job with the opportunity to progress to band 4 upon satisfactory completion of competencies. We would also consider recruiting at a band 4 level for candidates with extensive clinical experience.
It is essential that you hold a full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle that can be used for work purposes.
Main duties of the job
Your responsibilities will include working autonomously to meet individual patient needs.
You will have the ability to plan and deliver ongoing clinical interventions e.g. home visits, organising appointments and assessments.
You will also be an excellent communicator with patients, carers and within the team.
You will be quick to report any concerns you have about patient care and regularly raise any questions or ideas relating to the service with the rest of the team.
You will have excellent rapport building skills with patients and their carers, as well as conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
Our Speech and Language Therapy Service is county-wide supported by a dedicated administration team to provide a high quality service to the people of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Leicester is a vibrant and culturally diverse city with excellent transport links and surrounded by some beautiful countryside and characterful market towns.
You will be joining a small team of assistants who work across the service.
