To take responsibility alongside lead practitioners for drawing up long term, medium term and weekly curriculum plans which take into account the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage and other welfare requirements.
To ensure that the nursery’s staff, work experience, volunteers and resources are effectively managed and deployed.
To be responsible for facilitating a high quality of teaching and learning, ensuring that staff are properly deployed and offer appropriate stimulation and support to the children.
To draw up and to supervise the daily programme of nursery activities and events alongside the Manager/ Head of Nursery.
To be responsible for implementing systems of observation and record keeping so that children’s progress and achievements are effectively and regularly assessed; to monitor the effectiveness of assessment procedures.
To organise the key person system and to effectively supervise staff on a daily basis; to be responsible for monitoring the quality of teaching/ learning; to participate in staff appraisals and to identify in-service training needs with the Manager/ Head of Nursery.
To ensure records are properly maintained, e.g. daily attendance register and accident records and children’s personal files.
To liaise closely with parents/ carers, informing them about the nursery and its curriculum/ frameworks, exchanging information about children’s progress and encouraging parents’ involvement.
To assist the Manager/ Head of Nursery with safe guarding children in the nursery and to ensure that any issues or concerns are acted upon immediately and appropriately.
To ensure that the nursery is a safe environment for children, staff and others, that equipment is safe, standards of hygiene are high, safety procedures are implemented at all times and fire drills are regularly practised.
To liaise with the Head of Nursery, Manager, Ofsted and other professionals as necessary and ensure that all legal and statutory requirements are implemented; and to provide reports as required.
To contribute to and implement all nursery policies and procedures and to ensure that the philosophy behind the nursery is fulfilled.
To undertake learning walks and ensure best practice throughout the setting/ planning training and support for team members that may need it.
To manage the petty cash system and accounting of fees.
To attend and run in-service training and meetings as required which may be in/ out of working hours.
To show prospective parents around the nursery and explain policies and procedures.
To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Proprietor/ Head of Nursery/ Manager in accordance with the nursery’s business plan/ objectives.
To be responsible for completing timesheets on a monthly basis.
To complete the Nursery milk claim on a monthly basis.
Carry out weekly checks monitoring accidents and incidents and planning each week and hand this over to the manager, discussing any worries/ concerns and following this up together.
To carry out a weekly fire test on a Friday at 10am.

Essential Criteria
Proven experience of running a similar setting.
Level 3/4 qualification.
A satisfactory enhanced DBS check which confirms suitability to work with children.
Sound understanding and implementation of the EYFS.
Ability to plan and implement a pre-school curriculum, taking into account the SEN Code of Practice, Safeguarding procedures and Equal Opportunity considerations.
Ability to work with parents and to encourage their involvement.
Ability to lead and manage a team of adults to deliver high standards and results.
Commitment to and understanding of diversity and equality.
Ability to manage self and work calmly under pressure.
Ability to communicate effectively with a range of people.
Demonstrate professionalism in approach to managing all issues.
Ability to write clear reports.
