Key Responsibilities: Design and develop electrical systems for Building Services, ensuring they are safe, sustainable, economical, and meet all applicable codes and standards (e.g., BS 7671, BS 5266, BS 5839). Produce concept, preliminary, and detailed designs, providing support during the construction stage. Accumulate and review client requirements, coordinating with other disciplines (e.g., architectural, structural, mechanical) to ensure that all data is aligned and project restrictions are accounted for. Perform calculations for cable sizing, lighting layouts, and equipment selection using both manual methods and industry-standard software. Create sketches, detailed layouts, and specifications for approval by the Section Head (Electrical) before proceeding to detailed drawings and schedules. Assist in cost estimation for electrical designs and participate in tender reviews, responding to contractors’ submittals. Attend site visits, construction review meetings, and ensure quality control during the manufacturing and construction phases. Oversee the preparation of Health & Safety files and Operating & Maintenance manuals. Stay up to date on technological advancements, best practices, and regulations, ensuring designs use the most efficient and reliable systems available. Mentor and guide Intermediate and Junior Engineers within the Electrical department. Provide ongoing support throughout the project's lifecycle, from design to commissioning, ensuring continuity of workflow and prompt problem resolution.. Qualifications: Degree in Electrical Building Services Engineering or related field. 5-7 years of experience in Electrical Building Services design. Pursuit of Chartered Status and Membership of a recognized professional institution is essential. Skills & Abilities: Strong understanding of current regulations (e.g., CDM 2015, Building Regulations) and industry standards. Proven ability to produce high-quality, detailed electrical designs and technical specifications. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working across multiple disciplines. Experience mentoring and developing junior engineers. Ability to manage project timelines, budgets, and design completion within allocated hours. Proactive in identifying and resolving issues during the construction phase to ensure project continuity.
