PROJECT PROFILE
CANTO was established in 1992 to provide training and personal development for individuals with Learning Disabilities and Difficulties and/or Behavioural Issues. Over this period of time we have become recognised as a specialist provider, particularly with young people with medium to severe learning difficulties.
Our mission statement is: To work effectively and co-operatively with individuals who live with challenges arising from learning, behavioural, emotional and social difficulties, to progress their personal development, abilities, skills and qualifications. Staff are required to be in tune with our mission statement and keep it in focus at all times when undertaking their role.
Sessions are undertaken in functional skills, practical projects, drama, art, music, cooking, animal care, gardening, ICT and other activities aimed at building independence, developing social and personal skills.
Students also undertake work placements both at our work centre and in external companies.
Staff also plan activity days and community placements to further enhance their learning experience and help them to reach their potential.
Job Description for a Support Worker
To work alongside specified individuals in a variety of subjects, whilst maintaining the appropriate boundaries.
To encourage and support the individuals in assisting them in their personal development.
To provide personal care and administer medication where required.
Building of resources.
To complete accurate records of the sessions in order to provide feedback to the Leadership and Senior Leadership Team.
To provide feedback for learner reviews to aid the setting of milestones and targets.
To undertake staff training as and when required.
To maintain a clean and welcoming environment within their session room at all times.
To undertake other duties as requested by the Senior Leadership Team to further enhance the learning experience for those attending the project.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
* Be able to adopt the CANTO ethos and be committed to work with people with learning difficulties and assisting them in reaching their potential.
* Be a team player.
* Be able to generate mutual respect between both students and staff.
* Have good understanding of ICT to be able to troubleshoot issues that arise in delivery rooms.
* Be able to address low/medium level behaviours and use the appropriate strategies to manage these.
* Be able to keep calm in difficult and challenging situations.
* Be able to prioritise tasks in order to achieve the best outcome for all.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
Candidates would ideally:
* Have experience of working in a training environment and in particular in the specified area of delivery.
* Have a full driving licence.
* Have experience of working with people with learning difficulties.
VACANCY DETAILS
Full time vacancy 5 days (Monday to Thursday 8.30am to 4.30pm Friday 8.30am to 3.30pm) per week. Total of 36½ hours per week excluding lunch breaks. This contract is term time (38 weeks per year).
We place an emphasis on staff well-being and provide various activities for staff to participate in. Staff are benefiting this year from a paid day off to further enhance their well-being.
