Structural Engineer - Defence & Nuclear Projects
We are looking to appoint recently chartered or near-chartered Structural Engineers to join our Bristol-based Structures team. The successful candidates will play a key role in delivering high-impact defence and nuclear projects across the South West. This position requires working a minimum of three days per week from a client office or construction site located in Devon or Somerset.
Our multidisciplinary engineering practice offers integrated solutions across a wide range of building and infrastructure projects. We are involved in many of the most challenging and high-profile developments across sectors including Education, Residential, Commercial, Defence, Energy, and Transportation. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex, rewarding projects that shape the future and impact the way people live and work today.

Key Responsibilities
Apply technical expertise across a broad range of building structures and design situations. Develop conceptual designs and carry them through to detailed solutions. Collaborate with multi-disciplinary project teams to deliver design work within budget and schedule. Conduct research, collect data, and present findings. Attend site visits and participate in design team meetings. Mentor and support less experienced staff and apprentices. Work with BIM standards and assist in the development of project BIM Execution Plans. Keep up to date with parametric modelling and coding tools (e.g., Dynamo, Python, C++). Ensure compliance with Quality and Technical Assurance Procedures.
Requirements
Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering. Chartered or near-chartered status with MIStructE or MICE. Proficiency in designing with steel, concrete, timber, and masonry in accordance with Eurocodes. Experience in at least some of the following areas: UK MoD Defence Projects (JSPs, CTM). Submarine facilities design. Nuclear projects, including safety case compliance. Seismic design to US codes (steel and concrete). Maritime design (BS 6349). Heavy civil engineering projects. Capability in structural analysis software (e.g., Robot Structural Analysis, Revit preferred). Enthusiasm to adopt new technologies such as automation and digital engineering. Strong communication and presentation skills to support client relationships. Ability to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate within teams.
