This summer (June-August 2025), Bard SummerScape returns with a vibrant season of dance, theater, opera, music, and the beloved Spiegeltent. Presented by the Fisher Center at Bard, this celebrated multi-arts festival takes place in person on Bard’s idyllic 1,000-acre campus, featuring performances in the stunning Frank Gehry-designed performing arts center.
Electricians are part of the Lighting/Electrics team in the Production Department and support the execution of electrical elements and needs for production. They report to the Head Electrician and work closely with other production team members and lighting designers.
This is a seasonal position from June 6 through August 18, non-exempt (overtime eligible), paid hourly at a rate range of $16-21/hr depending on experience. Hours will average 35-40 hours/week, with the potential for overtime.
Local residence is required during the dates listed above; campus housing will be provided free of charge if needed, including a single bedroom and shared amenities based on availability. Employees will have access to three (3) meals per weekday and two (2) meals per weekend day on campus during the residency period. Should campus dining agreements or options change from the time of the agreement, an equivalent per diem will be provided. PLEASE NOTE: Room and board may differ for current Bard College students.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Maintain a safe, healthy, and inclusive workplace at all times
* Assist the Festival’s Head Electrician with the installation and maintenance of all lighting aspects of all productions and special events
* Actively participate in all lighting work calls as assigned
* Assist the Festival’s Head Electrician in the build and installation of production-specific lighting practicals
* Assist the Festival’s Head Electrician in the daily maintenance of all theatrical lighting equipment and lighting systems, including rental gear
* Work on the Sosnoff Lighting Crew during technical rehearsals and performances as assigned by the Festival’s Head Electrician
* Other duties, as assigned by the Festival’s Head Electrician or the Lighting Supervisor

Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EXPERIENCE
* Knowledge and experience working with theatrical lighting equipment and systems, including, but not limited to, conventional and automated fixtures, dimming systems, lighting consoles, and atmospheric effects
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
* Knowledge of both general theatrical production processes as well as lighting-specific practices
* Ability to read and understand lighting plots and paperwork
* Knowledge of theatrical safety practices
* Ability to climb stairs and ladders
* Ability to move and lift objects up to 50 lbs.
* Ability to frequently walk and stand
* Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays, as set by production schedule
* Ability to push, pull, hang, reach, lean, and balance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Experience working as an electrician for a variety of different performance genres, including orchestral concerts, operas, and dance
WORKING CONDITIONS
* Frequently works at heights above 6 feet
* Regularly exposed to electrical connections
* Regularly works in dimly lit areas
* Regularly works in areas with atmospheric effects, including but not limited to haze and strobes
