By joining their Urban Drainage team you will have an opportunity to work with a variety of clients including water companies working on major projects and be part of a team that develops cutting edge digital services to its clients. Due to the ongoing growth in the workload of their water business, they are seeking to recruit a Hydraulic Modeller/Engineer to join their Wastewater Asset Planning Team in Derby. The successful candidate will join a team of modellers, engineers, GIS specialists and programmers and will play a key role in delivering schemes for a range of Clients including Water Companies, Local Authorities, developers with the potential to get involved with international projects. Their aim is to help their clients adapt to a changing world in a sustainable and technologically innovative manner, promoting nature-based solutions that reduce human impact while improving the urban environments. The Asset Planning team carries out a range of projects in the clean and wastewater sector, including drainage network improvement schemes to relieve flooding of communities and reduce storm overflows to rivers and seas. This typically involves undertaking feasibility studies/projects using computer modelling, analysis to support operational and environmental recommendations or other interventions. This role will involve working on feasibility studies, computer analysis and engineering design, completion of technical tasks as appropriate to complete the works, site visits and liaison with clients, contractors, stakeholders and other professional bodies. Some of the main responsibilities include:
* Development of sewer system models to investigate deficiencies and generation of outline solutions.
* Development of 1D and 2D models to investigate flood risk and flooding mechanisms.
* Analysis of sewerage related operational data and hydraulic model root cause analysis.
* Support development of technical reports and other project deliverables.
* Undertake site asset surveys for physical and condition assessments.
* Prepare (and adhere to) health and safety risk assessments.
Requirements Qualifications - - BSc/BEng/MEng degree level, engineering, geography, GIS, science related subject degree or equivalent experience. Essential -
* Previous demonstrable experience in wastewater modelling using InfoWorks ICM.
* Experience of InfoWorks 2D / ICM, InfoNet/InfoAsset.
* Experience of GIS software: QGIS, MapInfo or ArcGIS preferred.
* A good understanding of UK water industry.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
* Good written and verbal communication.
* Proactive self-starter.
* Desire to learn and develop technically and work towards a professional qualification.
Desirable Criteria:
* Any prior experience of similar work in areas such as water supply, treatment and drainage:
* 2-4 years’ water industry experience.
* Experience of undertaking DWMPs and/or SOAF.
* Experience working with software such as FME, Power Bi, and/or programming tools such as Ruby, Python and Visual Basic.
* Knowledge of local water client specifications.
* Experience of working in a partnering environment.
* Full UK driving license.
