Optegra has an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Senior Scrub Nurse/Theatre Practitioner to join our amazing and supportive team in our York Hospital. This is a great opportunity to join a growing and developing business and benefit from our fantastic fully funded training programs.
Main duties of the job
Provide senior scrub experience to the day to day running of the ophthalmic theatre to ensure the safe, effective, and efficient flow of the theatre pathway. The post holder will provide excellent care to all patients, with specific responsibility for theatres and the patient flow through the department, in line with departmental policies, practice standards, regulation and governance to provide high quality, cost effective care that puts the patient first at all times. There is an on-call commitment associated with this role

Job responsibilities
Clinical Services
Liaise with Consultants to assess, plan, implementand evaluate programs of care for patients undergoing theatre procedures
Effectively monitor and plan all resources in theatre, including workforceplanning, efficiency of theatre lists etc
Monitor effective deployment of resources needed tosustain agreed activity, with guidance from the senior team
Motivate theatre staff to deliver high quality carethrough high professional standards at all times demonstrated by adherence tonationally recognised policies/procedures and NMC Code of Conduct, HCPC Code ofConduct compliance and AfPP standards.
Adhere to the legislative requirements of thestatutory bodies in relation to the provision of care.
Continually examine opportunities for continuous clinicalimprovement and develop and maintain a culture of change in line with bestpractice
Represent the department for nursing/clinical issuesat required meetings
People Management
Mentor for theatre team nurses, Operating DepartmentPractitioners (ODP) and support workers (HCTs).
Provide direction and highly visible professionalleadership for all staff in the operating theatre including support for themanagement team for appraisals, rotas, development, retention, and recruitment.
Foster a culture of professionalism and developmentfor all nursing, ODP and non-clinical staff through induction, supervision,appraisal, mandatory training, CPD, etc.
Resolves any workplace conflict in a professionalmanner through the correct organisational processes.
Financial
Report into the Regional Head of Clinical Servicesfor information for planning and maintaining clinical departmental budget
Influence efficiencies the departmental budgetto control costs and monitor effective use of resources
Work With the outpatient lead and other team members,to support effective controls to ensure the departments KPIs and financialtargets are achieved
Monitor and manage on an ongoing basis, the use ofconsumables to ensure efficiency and cost containment are maximised andappropriate for current occupancy and case mix.
Communication, Consultation &Change
Maintain a safe, healthy, and supportive workenvironment by communicating relevant policies and guidelines to all staff
Encourage contribution from the team via regularmeetings and open communication etc
Foster an environment which encourages staff toraise concerns to ensure that all clinical staff can be open and honest withpatients and colleagues embracing the duty of candour at all levels within thecompany.
Clinical Governance, Quality &Patient Safety
Work with the consultant body to ensure a culture ofhigh-quality care and candour is embedded and visible through the Quality andGovernance agenda. This includes monitoring effectiveness.
Ensure effective management of any records which arerequired are kept in accordance with professional, company, regulatory andlegislative needs.
Ensure effective Clinical Governance, Quality andPatient Safety policies & procedures are in place commensurate withlegislation, CQC guidance and the aspiration of the organisation.
Ensure systems & processes are in place so thatall departmental staff are aware of the organisations policies and proceduresand their application to the specific needs of patients and the organisation.
Ensure Infection prevention and control policies areup to date, and reflect best practice within the department
Ensure departmental audits are carried out, outcomesacted upon and shared
Ensure effective processes and procedures are inplace to identify, report, investigate, monitor, and act upon critical incidentreports.
Foster a culture of learning from critical incidentsto ensure lessons learned are disseminated according to company policy

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
1. - Be a Registered General Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner.
2. - Have a current NMC/ODP registration with no restrictions.
Experience

3. - Previous experience intheatre, minimum of fiveyears
4. - Proven track record of mentoringtheatre team nurses, Operating Department Practitioners (ODP) and support workers (HCTs)
5. - Experience and ability to provide direction and highly visible professional leadership for all staff in the operating theatre including support for the management team for appraisals, rotas, development, retention, and recruitment.
