Are you a motivated individual who will support our current infant feeding offer in line with UNICEF standards?
CCS are proud to be a UNICEF gold accredited organisation and the successful postholder will have the opportunity to continue the exciting work we deliver to families by working with an experienced infant feeding team and you will be integral to contribute to the delivery and sustainability of our standards within CCS.
Main duties of the job
1. Complete a breastfeeding assessment to assess how well baby is feeding at the breast and whether baby’s nutritional needs are being met.
2. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate breastfeeding support interventions in partnership with the breastfeeding mother.
3. Explain, demonstrate and assist mothers with positioning and attaching their babies for breastfeeding providing them with information on how to recognise when their babies are feeding well.
4. Explain and demonstrate to mothers how to hand express breastmilk and provide information and support on how to use a breast pump, importance of sterilising equipment and storage of breastmilk.
5. Maintain the Infant Feeding Team breast pumps and loans process.
6. Participate in the facilitation of the local antenatal parent education course in collaboration with local partners for example: Children Centre / Flying Start and midwife.
7. Manage workload under guidance of the Baby Friendly lead who holds continuing responsibility for achieving UNICEF Baby Friendly Accreditation.
8. Undertake own workload planning regarding home visits, joint visits, supporting Baby Brasseries, Breastfeeding Cafes, Peer Supporters, & attendance at public health activities.
9. To be responsible for day to day workload management and organisation of tasks and activities during the working week.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Communicate with people from a wide range of organisations including health professionals, Family hubs, Flying start, Children’s Centres, other statutory organisations members of voluntary groups and the public.
2. Listen appropriately and take into account any sensitive issues and communicate these to appropriate persons/agencies, ensuring that disclosures are acted upon appropriately and children are therefore protected.
3. Facilitate clear communication channels between families, colleagues, and other staff to ensure that planned care can take place.
4. Work independently accessing appraisal within an Individual Performance Framework at pre-determined intervals ensuring that the objectives set reflect the Service and Trust plans, including specific objectives relating to working with children.
5. Identify personal/professional development evidenced by Personal Development Plan/ Professional Portfolio.
6. Contribute to ensuring that robust data collection mechanisms are used & developed further as needed and that data is regularly scrutinised/audited to determine progress against targets. This may require the post holder to contribute to the development of remedial action plans to ensure that work in relation to local and national breastfeeding targets is met.
7. Work within the framework of the local Safeguarding Children guidelines to promote the health and safety of all children in partnership with parents.
8. Ensure CCS policies, guidelines and protocols are adhered to and reflected in day-to-day practice.
9. Ensure all incidents and accidents are reported appropriately in line with CCS policy.
10. Undertake lone client consultations under the direction of the Baby Friendly lead to deliver a planned intervention, e.g., to provide advice and support regarding breastfeeding.
Person specification
Experience
* Interest in health promotion, child health and family support.
* Evidence of assessment of care needs, planning, implementation and evaluation of care.
* High level of Knowledge of UNICEF Baby Friendly Standards in the Community.
Qualification and Training
* NVQ Level 2 or equivalent or relevant experience.
* UNICEF Baby Friendly initiative 3 days breastfeeding and relationship building training or equivalent.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Previous experience of feeding assessments and supportive work with mothers in a community setting.
Knowledge and Skills
* Excellent written skills which include record keeping.
* Excellent oral communication skills using observation, listening and empathy.
* Able to convey information clearly to patients, carers and other professionals both in verbal and written form.
* Have skills and knowledge to work competently with Microsoft Office applications.
* Computer literate with standard keyboard skills.
* Ability to work in a multi-agency team.
* Presentation skills to effectively facilitate a group of either professionals and/or clients.
* Ability to apply evidence of research-based practice.
