We currently have a Band 5 OT vacancy within our well-established Early Supported Discharge Stroke Team in South East Essex. This post forms part of our community band 5 OT rotation, and there will be the opportunity to rotate to other areas within EPUT Community Services including inpatient stroke/frailty rehabilitation, admission avoidance, and frailty virtual ward.
If you are a newly qualified OT, or an OT who is keen to work with stroke survivors and experience the breadth of Occupational Therapy roles within Community Health services, this could be the job for you. Community Health Services are changing and developing at a rapid rate, with the focus on admission avoidance, rehabilitation at home, and smooth and effective transition from Acute Hospital to home.
Main duties of the job
You will be part of a large and experienced Multidisciplinary team (MDT) working within people's homes, providing Occupational Therapy intervention to a designated client group. There is a robust support structure in place with Senior OTs, in-service training, peer supervision, and external CPD opportunities.
Job responsibilities
Clinical: To be responsible for delivery of Occupational Therapy within the area of general/complex medical conditions, prioritising clinical needs to provide an equitable and effective service. To manage a caseload of patients with complex/variable needs within a community setting. To plan and implement effective assessment and treatment programmes, using confident decision-making skills.
Communication: To communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers, and colleagues, demonstrating highly developed verbal and non-verbal skills to communicate often complex information, managing barriers to communication.
Documentation: To accurately record all activity data and maintain clinical records in a timely manner via our electronic systems.
Professional / Service Development: To adhere to HCPC and the Royal College of Occupational Therapists Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. To engage actively in practice development, audit, and research activities relevant to Occupational Therapy.
Person Specification
Education / Qualifications
* BSc or Diploma in Occupational Therapy
* HCPC registration or registration pending
* Evidence of Continual professional development (CPD)
Skills / Experience
* Basic awareness of current legislation, government initiatives & current practice affecting OT
* Clinical experience (incl. Student Placements) of area relating to speciality/post
* Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise/facilitate own and others daily work activities
* Excellent oral/written communication skills based on fluency of the English Language
Additional Requirements
* Current valid driving licence
* Ability to travel across sites efficiently and across Trust boundaries to attend meetings, etc.
