We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, conscientious Practice Nurse to join our existing Nursing Team based in Duston, Northampton.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will assist in the delivery of family planning, chronic disease management, cytology, child & adult immunisations as well as other nursing duties required by the practice. Provide assessment, screening treatment services and health education advice within agreed practice protocols. Undertake the collection of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, smears etc. Maintain continued education by attending courses and study days deemed useful or mandatory for professional development and revalidation.

Job responsibilities
1. Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs
2. Cytology
3. Removal of Sutures
4. Travel Clinic
5. ECGs
6. Venepuncture
7. Ear syringing
8. Routine immunizations, Childhood immunisations
9. Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
10. Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings
11. Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
12. Interest, qualification in Chronic Disease Management (Diabetes-Asthma-COPD)
13. Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate
14. Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs
15. Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required
16. Maintaining general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
17. Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels
18. Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
19. At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records
20. A duty to advise Lead Nurse of potential problems or errors within a range of assigned tasks
21. Attend and participate in any Nurse Team meetings and Protected Learning time when required.
22. Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post

Qualifications
* Current professional registration (current UK professional registration)
* Diabetes Diploma
* Asthma and/or COPD Diploma
* Family Planning
* Cytology
* Willing to participate in any relevant training identified to develop skills to carry out duties
* Good standard of general education
* Practical experience of working with and part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Experience of using own initiative skills and knowledge
* Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
* Interpersonal skills
* Time management and ability to work to deadlines
* Undertake enhanced DBS check
* Good sense of humour
* Full-time post working Monday to Friday (over 5 days)
* Immunisation/Travel Health
* Experience of working in General Practice
* Practical experience of computerised recording system
* Knowledge of the Practice Clinical System (SystmOne)
* An understanding of a General Practice Environment

£35,000 to £39,000 a year based on experience.
