Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge Fitzwilliam College, is a special welcoming community with a long history of being different, from its founding in the 1860s as a non-collegiate institution for students who could not afford to be affiliated with a Cambridge college through to its movement into becoming a college rooted in the 1960s modernist designs of Denys Lasdun. Fitz combines a drive for academic excellence and enquiry with a proven commitment to widening access to a Cambridge education. The College is located on a large seven-acre site within 10 minutes’ cycle ride of all the major faculties and departments of the University. At the heart of our grounds is a fine Regency house. Fitz is looking to appoint an outstanding individual as Director of Operations. Part of the College’s senior management team, the post-holder will lead the day-to-day operational functions of the College, spanning: IT, Accommodation, Housekeeping, Catering & Events, Maintenance, Gardens, and Porters. Developing the College’s conferencing and events activities based on a new business plan will be a crucial aspect of the role. The Director of Operations will also be a key contributor to the delivery of long-term capital projects in line with the College’s new £50m Estates plan, with the implementation of a £10.5m Phase I due to start in summer 2025. The appointee will engender a service improvement mentality in their teams, galvanising their department heads and ensuring College services meet a high standard. The new Director will be an active and engaged member of the community. Candidates should bring a record of accomplishment in a leadership position and demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills. They will have experience of managing a range of operational functions, with a proven ability to build, motivate, and manage a team of engaged staff. They will ideally have managed organisation-wide change. They should be committed to the College’s values and aims.
