Position Title: Management Accountant
Reports to: CEO
Job Summary
The Management Accountant is responsible for maintaining the financial controls in the business, developing and monitoring the department budgets, and preparing and managing financial forecasts. They will oversee the production of monthly management and year-end accounts, the latter by working with our Professional Advisors. They will be responsible for managing our apprentice accountant and will report directly to the CEO.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage the finance department, ensuring that all financial activities comply with UK regulations, including timely submission of VAT and Companies House returns, and production of annual accounts in partnership with our external accountant.
2. Monitor and report on departmental budgets, providing insights and suggestions for improvement, along with day-to-day oversight of the company’s financial position, including maintaining and updating a suitable cash flow forecast.
Experience:
Proven experience in developing and maintaining accurate financial forecasts and departmental budgets, with the ability to analyze discrepancies and recommend corrective actions as required. Experience within a manufacturing environment would be beneficial but is not essential.
Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of management accounting principles and techniques, along with a good understanding of day-to-day financial management. A working knowledge of Xero would be an advantage but is not essential.
Communication: Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to discuss technical financial accounting matters with senior managers and professional advisors.
Attention to Detail: Keen eye for detail and commitment to quality.
Preferred Skills:
Demonstrable ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment. Experience of export sales would be a distinct advantage.
This role would suit a newly or part-qualified Management Accountant who is keen to take responsibility for managing the financial elements of a growing business that has a plan to develop both within the UK and internationally. A willingness to travel is important as our growth is likely to involve developing at least one location outside the UK.
