Job overview
We have an opportunity for a Band 6 to join the Psychiatric Liaison Team based at Sunderland Royal Hospital. We offer a 24/7 service into a multi-site acute care hospital.
This is an interesting and varied role, working in fast-paced environments including Accident and Emergency and acute in-patient wards.
You will be responsible for undertaking biopsychosocial assessments including in-depth risk assessments, delivering brief interventions, and liaising with other health and social care services.
Liaison services provide the acute Trust staff with expert advice, as well as ongoing support and treatment to patients, as required.
Main duties of the job
In Liaison psychiatry, staff undertake comprehensive biopsychosocial mental health assessments alongside robust risk and collaborative safety planning.
When patients remain in the acute hospital for medical treatment, we provide liaison interventions which may include brief psychological interventions.
Liaising with professionals involved in the person's care including family and carers, acute care staff, social care, and other CNTW services.
We have a supportive MDT each day with psychiatrists, psychologists, pharmacy, and support worker staff and feedback assessments and liaison interventions.
* Proven ability to carry out and provide comprehensive written assessments of individuals with complex mental health needs.
* Risk Assessment and Risk Management / Safety Planning skills.
* Demonstrate an understanding of effective & appropriate treatment options including a range of evidence-based clinical approaches as identified in N.I.C.E. Guidance.
* Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
* Evidence of a high level of professional, organisational, and leadership skills (self & others).

Person specification
Qualifications
* Professional Qualification and current Professional Registration as a First Level Registered Nurse (RNMH, RMN, RNLD) or equivalent as an AHP, Social Worker, or Clinical Psychologist.
* Evidence of post-registration training in clinical/psychological interventions/skills relevant to the post.
* Proven track record of post-registration clinical experience relevant to the post.
* Training in CPA (Care Programme Approach), Safeguarding, MAPPA (Multi Agency Panel for the Protection of Vulnerable Adults), and Child Protection.
* Up-to-date knowledge/experience of relevant legislation.
Knowledge and Experience
* 12 to 24 months band 5 qualified nurse experience dependent upon service need.
* Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, NMC standards, and other local and national initiatives.
Skills and Competencies
* Proven ability to carry out and provide comprehensive written assessments of individuals with complex mental health needs.
* Risk Assessment and Risk Management / Safety Planning skills.
* Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
