Job summary We are looking for dynamic, passionate, Health Care Assistants to join the team on Renal & Urology Departments. The post holder will assist all Renal Day Case Procedures/ Interventions within the Renal Outpatient setting and Renal Wards, under the supervision of the Renal Procedures/ Interventions CNS. The post holder will undertake all main duties and responsibilities as listed below to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of Renal Outpatient Services. To assist Clinicians performing Renal Biopsies. To undertake the monitoring, recording and appropriate escalation and timely reporting of patients clinical observations including NEWS score to the managing CNS in the pre, peri and post- operative stages of treatment. To undertake the setting up of specialised operating trolleys for Haemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis access procedures and preparing patient areas appropriately to their clinical purpose. To complete cannulation as identified by the Interventions CNS. To attend the daily Renal Procedures Safety Huddle. To undertake phlebotomy for the collection of blood samples including venous blood gases and specialist transplant bloods. To undertake specialist urine dipstick and documentation of findings prior to the commencement of Nephrology Clinic to prevent any unnecessary Clinician and patient waiting times. To ensure that all specialist equipment including ultrasound scanners, bladder scanners, Haemocaths, PD catheters, renal biopsy equipment are available and clean before and after each Renal Procedure. To ensure that each area is cleaned before and after each Renal Procedure (including the procedure room and bed areas)in line with infection control and local Standard Operating Policy. To assist in the admission and discharge of patients to and from Renal Outpatients in line with Standard Operating Policy.. To assist in the maintenance of up to date, comprehensive and accurate records in accordance with current legal requirements. To ensure that equipment is clean at all times, labelled with date, time and signature and stored safely when not in use. To undertake uncomplicated suture / staple removal once deemed competent by Transplant Lead CNS. To undertake daily emergency equipment checks including Fridge and Blood sugar monitor. To ensure that stock levels of linen, sterile supplies (trolleys and procedure room) and stationery are maintained at all times in conjunction with the Senior CNS and ward receptionist.
