Join NHS Property Services as the Head of Health and Safety and lead the way in creating a safe and compliant environment across our diverse property portfolio. NHS Property Services enables excellent patient care by acting as a trusted advisor to the NHS and by providing the best estate solutions. We manage 2,700 properties with 6,300 customers across England, which accounts for approximately 10% of the total NHS estate. Our properties range from listed buildings to new integrated care centres and include hospitals, GP practices and offices. This is a senior leadership role within NHS Property Services that is responsible for driving a robust health and safety culture across the organisation. The Head of Health and Safety will lead a team of professionals and work closely with senior stakeholders to ensure the highest standards of health and safety are maintained across NHSPS s diverse property portfolio. What you will do Establish and embed a robust health and safety culture across NHS Property Services. Act as the principal health and safety advisor to the Executive Director of Responsible Business (line manager), Executive Team, and Board, providing strategic guidance on key risks and opportunities. Develop and deliver the health and safety strategy, aligned with NHSPS s Responsible Business priorities, to ensure compliance, mitigate risks, and promote best practices across the organisation s diverse property portfolio Lead and develop a team of health and safety professionals and work collaboratively with senior stakeholders to drive excellence in health and safety performance. Develop, implement, and review health and safety policies, procedures, and standards, ensuring compliance with UK legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. Provide strategic oversight of health and safety risks across NHSPS s property portfolio, ensuring robust mitigation measures protect and safeguard all colleagues, contractors, customers, and patients. Establish and maintain governance frameworks for incident reporting, risk management, and performance monitoring, driving accountability and continuous improvement. Lead investigations into health and safety incidents, ensuring lessons learned are implemented to prevent recurrence and improve organisational resilience. Oversee compliance with safety standards during live construction and refurbishment projects, ensuring safe environments for care delivery. Build collaborative relationships with internal teams, customers, regulators, and contractors to embed health and safety in daily operations and strategic initiatives. Provide high-quality insights and reports on health and safety performance, risks, and initiatives for senior leadership, the Board, and external stakeholders. Who you are An experienced health and safety professional with a strong background in developing and implementing health and safety strategies. Deep understanding of UK health and safety legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) or working towards this designation. Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships with internal teams, customers, regulators, and contractors. A strategic thinker with the ability to provide high-quality insights and reports on health and safety performance, risks, and initiatives for senior leadership, the Board, and external stakeholders. A background within the Facilities Management space is advantageous.
