Entity: Production & Operations Job Family Group: Subsurface Group Job Description: The Geophysics Global Specialist Team is looking for a geophysicist to join the team supporting activity across bp’s subsurface portfolio. The team is accountable for the consistent application of specialist geophysics workflows and toolkits across subsurface to predict static and dynamic properties for the reservoir and overburden. The role will give the successful individual the opportunity to work with experts in geophysical analysis and seismic rock properties, to deepen and/or broaden their existing skills and should be of interest to both individuals with existing strong analysis skills and others, including integrated geophysicists, looking to strengthen their core applied geophysics skills. The team works with both region and centrally based squads, from Exploration, through Reservoir Management and Low Carbon projects, so provides an excellent opportunity to experience and impact the diversity of geographies and business challenges in Subsurface. Projects range from fundamental data quality assessments through to high end inversion for reservoir property prediction. There will be opportunities to influence, enhance and deploy our digital toolkit through the Rapid squads and close collaboration with the Technology organisation. The team is also heavily involved in supporting capability through development and delivery of formal training classes and 1-1 technical coaching. What you will deliver In this role, you will lead and contribute to all aspects of the team’s delivery which will include: Flow to work geophysical support within Solutions, Exploration or Region squads: Geophysical analysis and reservoir property prediction with uncertainty estimation. Activities include calibration to log data, AVO analysis and 1D Stochastic Inversion (ODiSI) and integration of Seismic Rock Property studies Seismic modelling from 1D to 4D to understand or predict the seismic response Depth calibration and uncertainty Post migration data quality evaluation and enhancement Coaching support for non-specialist squad members for routine seismic analysis Geophysical analysis support to Seismic Delivery for contractor processing Support for Seismic Fitness and Seismic Interpretation Health Check reviews Technology Deployment: Evaluation, deployment and coaching support for 3rd party analysis toolkits Influence, support and deploy internally developed analysis technology Incremental enhancements of deployed workflows and toolkit including, when appropriate, coding Discipline health support: Stewardship of the geophysical analysis toolkit and workflows Development and delivery of analysis training classes, handrails and guidelines Team members have the opportunities to work projects globally, where practical, irrespective of their geographical location, in support of business priorities. This will include: Working with squads to define project objectives, scope and timing aligned with business objectives Assessing the quality and the suitability of seismic datasets for the proposed analysis workflows Ensuring best practice is applied appropriately to impact the key technical and business objectives When appropriate, testing new or alternative approaches if existing workflows are unsuccessful Clear communication of technical insights, learnings and uncertainties What You will need to be successful In addition to holding a degree in Geophysics (or similar), it is important that you can also demonstrate: Broad knowledge and experience of applying geophysical analysis workflows, and experience of integrating analysis products into the broader subsurface workflows Strong delivery with experience of leading projects A strong drive for personal development including understanding both technical detail and practical applications Comfort working across multiple time zones in an agile and flexible manner. Good communication skills both one-to-one and working remotely. Ability to work independently while comfortable seeking support when appropriate. Experience of technical coaching A collaborative working style.
