We have an exciting opportunity to join our amazing chemotherapy day unit team and looking to recruit a chemotherapy trained staff nurse who has experience within oncology/haematology nursing and has a recognized qualification/experience in the administration of systemic anti-cancer treatments including chemotherapy.
We pride ourselves in supporting and giving hope to patients and their families by providing a relaxed, friendly environment in which they can receive their treatment. Nurses within our team gain experience in all aspects of giving anti-cancer therapies as well as assessment skills in identifying and treating side effects, working closely with the wider oncology and haematology teams.
We are looking for a nurse who is passionate about giving excellent care to patients in a busy environment and want to join our small but dedicated nursing team in delivering that care to people whose lives have been touched by cancer. As a registered nurse, the postholder is personally accountable for their practice and must adhere to the NMC standards expected of them. Responsibilities include:
1. Working as part of a team responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care.
2. Administration of systemic anti-cancer treatments including chemotherapy.
3. Allocating and checking work of junior staff, healthcare assistants, supporting students, and visiting staff members to the unit.
4. Liaising with pharmacy and other members of the wider team including specialist nurses and consultants.
5. Supporting the unit manager by undertaking basic audits as and when required.
6. Maintain own professional development through ongoing education and development together with all mandatory training.
7. Adhere to the Trust Policy on Scope of Professional Practice, developing own sphere of practice with guidance from the Unit Manager.
8. Ensure appropriate and timely communication with patients and relatives/carers, advising, instructing and supporting them as needed.
9. Ensure the environment is clean and welcoming, taking steps to address any concerns and ensuring compliance with Health & Safety, Infection Control, Fire Prevention Management, Risk Management, and COSHH.
10. Participate in appraisal process, taking opportunity to identify and discuss own learning needs with appraiser.
