Point on Salary Scale: Base Point - £24,985.51 per annum
Contract Duration: Initial contract – 12 months fixed term
The Driver will be responsible for driving the Joint Secretary, and other staff as necessary, for maintaining the Secretariat vehicles, and for providing administrative assistance to support the work of the Secretariat. This role involves a wide variety of tasks as detailed below, including supporting the wider work of the Secretariat. The successful candidate will be based in Belfast and must have a legal entitlement to live and work in Northern Ireland prior to recruitment.
Role and Responsibilities:
The precise range of duties will vary over time according to the requirements of the Secretariat. Significant out-of-hours work will be expected but within the local employment law provisions. This role will include, but may not be limited to the following activities:
* Driving the Joint Secretary to and from official engagements, driving other staff, and picking up official visitors as required;
* Maintaining the official vehicles (ensuring they are serviced regularly, washed and cleaned as required etc.);
* Assisting in the renewal of car insurance, vehicle registration and any other vehicle administration;
* Keeping track of mileage, fuel, and toll expenses;
* Daily collection/delivery of post, newspapers or supplies;
* Management of car parking for external visitors;
* Assisting with Secretariat events - transporting and loading equipment as required;
* Assisting with arranging routine maintenance, liaising with service providers as required;
* Assisting with small maintenance issues at the Chancery and Residence, as required;
* Assisting with other administrative duties at the Chancery and Residence, as required
* Carry out other tasks as requested by the Joint Secretary and office manager.
Essential requirements:
* Candidates must be fluent in English;
* Extensive previous driving experience including at executive level;
* Clean and current driving licence for at least two years, and highly competent driving skills; A driving test may form part of the recruitment campaign;
* A very good geographical knowledge of the region;
* Security management skills, understanding of security operations and procedures;
* Ability to exercise good judgement and decision making;
* A high level of discretion, commitment and reliability;
* A flexible attitude, good judgement and the ability to work effectively as part of a team;
* Excellent punctuality and time management;
* Ability to use GPS/online maps;
* Availability to work out-of-hours and additional hours, as required;
* Medical/Health checks will apply;
* All applicants must have a permanent legal right to reside and work in Northern Ireland.
Terms and Conditions of Employment:
Start date: June 2025
Location: Belfast City Centre
Contract duration: An initial fixed term contract for a duration of 12 months
Working hours: 37.5 hours per week including evening and weekend work. Individuals unavailable to work out-of-hours should not apply for this post.
Salary: £24,985.51 per annum (entry point of the salary scale)
Additional hours driving allowance also applies.
Salaries are paid direct to a bank account, therefore, the successful candidate must have a bank account.
Eligibility: Candidates must have a permanent, legal right to reside and work in Northern Ireland and will be subject to employment and taxation law.
