Salary: £36,807 per year
We have a rare and exciting opportunity for an emerging Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our dedicated and passionate MDT at Cygnet Wast Hills.
Set in a beautiful location, Cygnet Wast Hills provides support for 21 individuals with Autism, learning disabilities, and complex needs. The team also supports individuals who may be detained under the Mental Health Act, as well as those who have complex behaviours or significant difficulties with social engagement.
In line with 'building the right support', the site will support 8 individuals in the main house as well as 13 bespoke single occupancy flats, enabling the service to provide support to individuals who have different levels of need in their own space tailored to their sensory needs.
This role also provides support to individuals who may require SLT input at Willow House, a specialist residential service for adults with learning disabilities, complex needs, and behaviours that may challenge.
Job Role
As a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you will have a unique opportunity to support the development and delivery of an evidence-based SLT service to meet the needs of the complex client group. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will use expert skills to assess, advise, and intervene with the aim of promoting, implementing, and embedding functional communication systems; this is a hands-on role with high levels of contact with individuals in the care of the service.
You will be able to train others, promote good practice, and maintain a successful total communication environment.
You will be accountable to the Director of Speech and Language Therapy and the onsite hospital manager at Cygnet Wast Hills. A postgraduate qualification in the management of dysphagia is desirable, but we are able to support you towards gaining accredited training if this is an area for your personal development.
A full-time SLT Assistant will support you in the delivery of Speech and Language therapy interventions at this location.
We are looking for someone with:
* HCPC registration as a Speech and Language Therapist
* Experience in the field of Learning Disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorders and Mental Health Conditions
* Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support with an emphasis on person-centred planning
* Knowledge of sensory needs and how these may impact on functioning and regulation
* Dysphagia training (desirable - training available)
* Excellent communication & time management skills
* Enthusiasm, motivation, and passion
