Job Overview
This Specialty Doctor post in Adult Psychiatry is located in the Peterborough area of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will work with the Consultant Psychiatrist primarily to provide medical input to the patients on Recovery Ward.
This is a 6-month post on a fixed term basis.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the evidence-based management of patients admitted to the Unit for assessment of their psychiatric condition.
2. Management of patients admitted to the Recovery ward, under supervision of consultant psychiatrist.
3. To work with the multidisciplinary team on the unit and other teams within and outside the organisation and share responsibility with them for day-to-day management of the unit and seamless patient care.
4. Teaching and training of junior staff, medical students, and other disciplines.
5. To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance, audit, and research.
6. To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD), supervision, and medical appraisal.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
The Post Holder Will:
1. Assess newly admitted patients for their physical and mental health needs including risk.
2. Take active steps to address the identified needs in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team.
3. Liaise with other health professionals and other voluntary and third sector agencies.
4. Work with MDT in discharge planning.
5. Attend team meetings and routine clinical handovers.
6. Guide and support other junior doctors in day-to-day functioning of the unit and distribution of workload.
7. Actively participate in local and trust-wide educational activities. The services regularly have medical student attachments and involvement in teaching is encouraged.
Other Responsibilities
If the post holder proves to be both successful and committed at Specialty Doctor level, there is the possibility of further career development. All career grade doctors are required to maintain their education, professional development, and accreditation. Appropriate time and financial support are available for this purpose. The post holder undertakes, exceptionally, to be available for such irregular commitments outside normally rostered duties as are essential for continuity of patient care.
Person Specification
Education/Qualifications
* Full GMC registration and licence to practice
* MBBS or equivalent
* Eligible for approval under Section 12 of the MHA 1983
* MRCPsych or equivalent
Entry Criteria for the Grade
* Completed minimum of 4 years full-time postgraduate training (or equivalent) of which 2 will be in a specialty training programme in psychiatry or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty
* Shall have equivalent experience and competencies
Experience
* Experience of multi-disciplinary working
Skills/Knowledge/Ability
* Knowledge of policy and legislation relating to mental health
* Ability to make decisions and carry out responsibilities without direct supervision.
* Ability to take clinical lead under the supervision of the Consultant
