The post is a full-time (10 Programmed Activities) Consultant Stroke Physician role, at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, working across all parts of the stroke service. The Stroke service provides 24/7 cover and currently has seven dedicated Stroke consultants, one clinical Academic, contribution from consultant Neurologists and an Acute Medicine consultant.
NUH is the fourth largest acute Trust within the UK, with a busy emergency department at Queens Medical Centre, which is a level 1 Trauma Centre. NUH provides services to 2.5 million residents of Nottingham and surrounding communities, and specialist services to a further 3-4 million across the region and nationally.
The successful applicant will join an enthusiastic and committed team. The Trust is committed to further development of the Stroke service to maintain its long-standing position in the forefront of stroke care provision nationally. The post holder will play a key part in developing the existing stroke pathway, providing consultant input to hyper acute stroke, acute stroke, intensive rehabilitation and continuing stroke rehabilitation.

You will be joining a dedicated, diverse and dynamic team of professionals providing outstanding stroke care and internationally recognised Stroke research within the NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre, a partnership between NUH and the University of Nottingham.
About us
The Head of Service is Dr Senthil Raghunathan and the specialty sits within the Division of Medicine.
* 16 bedded hyper acute stroke unit on the QMC campus
* 28 bedded acute rehabilitation stroke unit on the QMC campus
* 18 bedded long-term rehabilitation stroke unit on the City Campus (with 4 winter pressure beds) and 6 community beds
* A fast track TIA clinic (7 days per week)
* Stroke outpatient clinics
* 24/7 thrombolysis service
* A regional Mechanical Thrombectomy service
The stroke service is well supported by 10.5 WTE Stroke registrars who provide stroke cover in a dedicated 24/7 rota. The pool consists of an academic fellow, Stroke clinical fellow, Neurology registrar, Geriatric registrar and Trust Grade registrars.
SpR's take part in the integrated GIM on call rota for when they are responsible to the duty general medical consultant.
Junior medical support is provided by 4 x F1, 2 x F2, 3 x Trust Grade F2, 9 x Trust Grade CT1, 1 x ST (1MT1), 4 x VTS-ST2. All junior staff spend four months attached to the stroke unit and rotate across the stroke wards to ensure they experience all elements of the service.
Job responsibilities
A full range of Stroke emergency and elective patients are admitted to Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and the appointee will be responsible for the management of those patients admitted under their care.

Person Specification
* Full GMC registration
* CCT expected within 6 months of interview date OR via CESR route, must have confirmation of RCP approval to be entered onto the Specialist Register
* Eligible to be included on the specialist registrar

* MRCP
* Higher professional degree

* Evidence of participation in Clinical Audit
* Able to teach and support junior staff effectively
* Original Research Publications Higher teaching degree or qualification or training
Personal Skills/Qualities

Clinical Skills/Experience
* Extensive experience in Stroke Medicine
* Experience in hyper acute stroke care and trained and experienced in thrombolysis
* Comprehensive knowledge of current issues in general internal medicine.
* Evidenced technical skills as described in the job description

Management Skills
