As the Head of the Chief Executive's Office, you will be at the core of Newham Council's strategic initiatives. In this pivotal role, you will work closely with the Chief Executive, the Corporate Management Team, and the Mayor’s Office to ensure the seamless execution of key priorities. Leading the Executive Support team and managing the Chief Executive’s casework will be central to your responsibilities. You will ensure that internal governance and decision-making processes run smoothly and efficiently. Your efforts will be crucial in making sound judgments, prioritising tasks, and responding to the dynamic needs of the organisation.
The Chief Executive is seeking a dedicated professional who understands their priorities and agenda, ensuring their time and attention are utilised to the maximum effect. This role requires someone who can operate with a high degree of autonomy and initiative while providing exceptional day-to-day support to the Chief Executive.
In this role, you will work closely with the Chief Executive to understand and advance their strategic priorities. Leading and managing the Executive Support team will be essential to provide top-tier administrative support. You will oversee the Chief Executive’s casework and streamline internal governance and decision-making processes. Building and maintaining strong relationships across all levels of the Council and with external partners will be crucial to your success. You will be responsible for prioritising and managing multiple complex schedules, ensuring the efficient use of the Chief Executive’s time. Additionally, you will drive organisational improvement through thought leadership and innovative solutions.
About You
We are looking for a proactive and organised individual with a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of complex organisational dynamics. You should excel in building strong relationships across all levels of the Council and have a proven track record in improving systems and streamlining processes. Experience in a fast-paced, politically complex environment is essential, along with demonstrated thought leadership in organisational improvement.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are crucial, enabling you to manage multiple priorities and complex schedules effectively. Your strategic oversight and project management experience will be vital in this role, as will your strong problem-solving abilities and capacity to work autonomously.
