Your role
As an Assistant Border Force Officer in International Trade, you'll help ensure the smooth and legal movement of goods in and out of the UK at one of the world’s busiest ports. The role is fast-paced and constantly evolving, with support from your team throughout your career.
Your work will involve checking shipments, ensuring goods are declared correctly, and enforcing laws on endangered species and counterfeit products. You'll also perform searches for prohibited items like drugs, firearms, and tobacco as part of our intelligence-driven operations.
What will you be doing
Your activities may include:
* Undertaking checks and research on IT systems to identify companies, traders and goods at the border
* Conducting searches on companies, traders and goods to establish if a customs offence has been committed
* Checking documents and inspecting goods for compliance
* Processing trade documents, investigating errors, and handling complaints
* Using and gathering intelligence to guide border activity
* Using law enforcement powers to arrest, detain, and seize goods involved in offences, while preserving evidence and working with other agencies

Training and Development
We’ll support you with full training including:
* Initial 5 to 8 weeks of full-time ‘classroom’ training including Public and Personal Safety Training
* ‘On the job’ training with a mentor supporting you until you are fully confident. Even then you are never alone: your team are always around for advice and support
NB - You will need to complete a health declaration and/or medical examination as a level of fitness is necessary to pass the training.
Eligibility
* You must be at least 18 years of age at the time of submitting your application
* You must be a UK National and a UK resident for the last 5 years (and undertake Security Clearance)
